Hrm - let me get this straight.
The OP would like to get a Steam key by purchasing the DRM free GoG version? So, in essence, getting 2 games for the price of one. One of which he/she/it/them/other can distribute willy nilly to anyone due to the lack of DRM protection [not saying the OP would do that, just hypothetical].
Want steam achievements? Get steam version. Want DRM Free? Get GoG Version. Want Both? Buy Both.
While I am sorry that the way Steam treats foreign customers [especially in relation to the Euro/AUD] - I don't see any valid reason for this to happen.
Yes, I am chiming in late to the choir. Sorry - been busy.

On Steam you could pay a US person to gift it to you if you know someone you can trust if you prefer the TF2 items and Steam Achievements.

It keeps you up at night, the thought that there might be files on your hard drive that you don't need? Or that some data demon could come along and cackle maniacally as it erases that save game of yours?
I don't really understand the obsession with the cloud. Maybe I'm just too old and grouchy. Or maybe I just have an extra hard drive ^_^

-cloud save

-controller support
-screenshot feature
-chat & gametime
will ensure any game is played with full interest, especially for those causal gamers

Practically Steam told me to buy only discounted games. So be it.
