Tulivu: I don't know. I wouldn't mind if this forum included pop up tips.

Tip: Did you know The Witcher 2 has its own forum for Witcher 2 threads?
Um, this is more about a comic strip than the game....and mostly people with tech related stuff post on that subforum.

Tip: It's a General Discussion.

We don't post news about Heroes of Might and Magic 6 in the Might & Magic forums. It's a comic of general interest therefore fair game to be posted in the General Discussion forum.

I was joking too.....I just like being obscure sometimes.
If Jimbo would stop eating Twinkies...

Seriously, I thought that games were too easy. And then got angry at TW2. And that made me realize games are too easy nowadays. And how is a game that requires greater involvement bad? Not everything has to be pick up and play easy you know.

Hmmm, maybe folk should play Ninja Gaiden Black before moaning how hard it is :D
The video review over at The Escapist also bitched about the tutorial's structure. FWIW I've always been bothered by storylines that go something like "You are the world's biggest badass, no one has matched your prowess and cunning since age 7... now here's how you fire your bow".

I recall the days of pouring over the manual in the car (because we didn't have handhelds), that was when you memorized all this stuff. When you finally got home to actually play Bard's Tale you already new ARFL cast Arc of Flame and you dreamed of the day you could enter NUKE and cast Armageddon.

I do admit these days are mostly gone, manuals haven't had good stuff in years, so who reads them? If I need info I pull up a wiki page or Youtube video.

I wonder how much of it is actually difficulty and how much is brutally punishing the player for not playing the game as intended, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow did the same, if you didn't block and roll a lot, you died. If you didn't learn to achieve focus on bosses you'd never beat them on anything above easy.

Hiding stuff behind an insane UI is probably not as defensible, though:)

Delixe: Nah it's not Nintendo hard it's just very hard at the beginning, it get's much easier as you level up Geralt.
I think it's more about the player leveling up. I started a new playthrough on hard, and I decided to make a "naked Geralt" run, and it's easy beyond belief since the beginning, at least in comparison to my first playthrough.
With all of the internets available, what excuse is there for ignorance? If the problem was poor controls, I would understand but Demon's Souls was praised for its difficulty and unforgiving nature.

Hm, that's a pretty good example. Go me.

I actually talked briefly with Sterling on twitter while he was playing it. He was complaining dodge doesn't work as you still get hit, I said you have to dodge to somewhere you won't get hit. Honestly it was like talking to a child. No wonder he has the reputation of being a class A prick.

Tulivu: (snip)
That's a very good point. Wasn't it announced though to be unforgiving? I might be wrong on this one, not really defending anything just wondering.

With the escapist review I don't like how he says at the end that he was intrigued but had to play flawed game in order to get anything out of it. Durr, it's got flaws as any other game but you just need to adapt not to die, what is wrong with that?

You also have to try dodging in the proper direction at the right time, and not just trying all directions at any time.

Bu.. bu.. but roll frames make you invincible!
These games are using fighting mechanics that make more sense than: mashing X makes you attack in sequence instead of starting an attack w/ every click, blocking means all hits are directed to your shield even if they hit your back...

Think, Damn it!
I'm just going to leave this here.

Also, a lot of the original Nintendo Hard games from the eighties were Nintendo Hard because they were (arguably bad) ports of arcade games. Said arcade games were typically powered by unlimited continues, which were powered by hopefully unlimited quarters.

Edit: I suppose TW2's "tutorial" also came as a shock to me because the tutorial sequence in the original Witcher actually did its job.

I expect so called "professional" game reviewers to be able to read.
