Quote from the W2 FAQ:
Is The Witcher 2 really be completely DRM free? It's a brand-new game!
Yes. We will never sell our customers games with DRM and GOG.com is the one and only place to get The Witcher 2 without any form of DRM.
So.... what so special about GOG version of W2 now after patch looking at ingame content? It was announced as the only no-DRM version and now all versions have that. I think many people has bought W2 on GOG just because of that advertisement. Are there any plans to GOG version become special again? Maybe add some DLC?

Dude it means we won. Not only did we prove a no-DRM big title can sell, CDPR was able to remove DRM from other copies like 2 weeks after launch. Do you have any idea how unprecedented that is? It's the biggest F-you to big publishers we could have given. It proves, beyond any doubt, that DRM is about killing your ability to sell your used games.
If it makes you feel any better, the art book is exclusive to the GOG.com version and the Collector's Edition iirc.

This.

The reason to buy it from GOG is that 100% of the money goes direct to CDProjekt. It wasn't just about DRM but how publishers are increasingly irrelevant.

Well, I'd imagine the Steam version still has Steam DRM. GOG has the price promise for those in Europe, and their updated privacy policy allows you to change your country.

I understand the meaning of this fact, but that does not help me to not feel somehow cheated.

Did you get the game for a fair price? Have you been playing it since day one without any sort of DRM? Did you help make one of the most important gambles a gaming company has made in the last half decade succeed?

I suspect the answer to all of them is "Yes." Don't feel cheated, feel proud, and enjoy playing your game:)

As in you were lied to to support what should be happening in video game retail?

Yes, but I bought GOG version for DRM-free play and also "in the box" version for physical content. Now I have two W2s.

Minus whatever cut the payment gateway takes, yeah. Personally I'm happy enough with my GOG copy, to be honest. The only physical tat that interests me are art books and soundtracks. So I don't feel like somehow I've lost out here.

I don't understand what for. First they said Witcher 2 will be DRM free, then they had to change that, but it was obvious they will release DRM removal patch soon (maybe not week after the release, but in two-three months) - they did that with Witcher 1, so there was big chance they'll do it with Witcher 2.

What I don't understand is why they released all DLC for everyone, even though they said some will be exclusive for Collectors Edition. But that's not important now. Anyway, I don't understand why have you bought two copies, you had to know they will release DRM removal patch soon.

This is why humans can't have nice things.

It was obvious? You had to know? Heh. I'm busy person, don't have time to sit all day and read all info about games. I saw info that W2 will have DRM, and then saw GOG's FAQ (which is still online even when not true anymore). :)

Gift one to someone.

One of my ideas, but the problem is that gifting my physical copy when I bought it for physical content is a no-no. :D
