I agree. One of the reasons I love the Witcher series is because of the sex. If you dislike sex(I can't understand why), then maybe you should play on the Nintendo Wii or Nintendo 3DS only and forget about PC gaming...

The Witcher is based (to be precise - it continues) on the books written by Andrzej Sapkowski.

You haven't read them probably, but I did, and as The Witcher games were supposed to be faithfull to the original world, they had to have a lot of sexual content. There are many such elements in the Sapkowski short novels and whole saga.

But I'm ok with your opinion, as I know about certain games I would like someone to censor some parts.

There is a difference between acknowledging that sex and profanity actually exists (and sure as shit was there in Ye Olden Days with thatched roofs and castles; remember that girls payed to get fucked by winning gladiators before that, too), and pornography. Mature and adult are the same thing in terms of the context discussed here, otherwise you're just considering adult to be pornographic, and to hell with that.

I think the problem is, for me at least, that the profanity and sex is just so pointlessly gratuitous in the game (the latter much more so). I don't mind swearing at all, and I don't mind nudity at all, if they are appropriate in the given context. But not if they are all over the place just so the game can proudly point at itself and call itself mature and brave.

To rephrase it: is there a female character anywhere at all in the Witcher games whose tits aren't just about to burst through whatever flimsy excuse for a dress they are wearing? I'm somewhere in the third chapter of the first game and all the women I meet either are whores or look like whores. With the exception of a few grannies.

You know what a mature RPG looks like? Planescape: Torment. The Witcher is about as mature as jerking off over a porno magazine. It's a good game, but the sleazy sexism of it, in this day and age, just rubs me the wrong way (pun intended, I guess).

EDIT: I haven't read the Sapkowski books. It may very well be they are just like that. But if they are, I'd probably raise the exact same criticism against them.

I think that it censored the nudity but not the profanity. I'm more okay with the sexual stuff because you can chose whether you want to engage in it or not, its the profanity that is forced on you most of the time, especially when the Witcher says something ridiculous like "abso-f**king-lutely." I mean, besides getting offended at the profanity or even intrigued, I tend to laugh hysterically at it because it is so out of place and jarring. I mean, did Darth Vader in Star Wars have to utter "Bow before me Luke you b**ch ass c**k s**ker!" NO!

I may be over-reacting a bit, but I think the solution lies here:

The designers of 'Adult' themed games need to at least add a menu option for gamers to toggle on/off the Adult stuff.

That way, the porno-freaks AND normal RPG gamers can enjoy the game ;)

The games are actually pretty faithful to the original books. There is a lot of profanity in the books, and it's handled very nicely I think (at least in the french translation of the books). You seldom have the profanity written point blank, but it is described indirectly such as through the reaction of the characters. It's very funny to read, and not at all out of place since you get to 'fill in the blanks' with whatever profanity you consider fitting to the situation and universe :-)

I'd suggest Mass Effect 1&2 if you've managed to avoid those. Alpha Protocol is also very underrated IMHO.

The sex isn't gratuitous. It is realistic. Women in the Witcher universe find Geralt very attractive so yeah, there will be a lot of sex. If there was any less sex, then I'd think the Witcher universe is mostly lesbian women and it wouldnt be realistic. And are you complaining that there are too many attractive women in the game? What is wrong with you?

I doubt that cdproject red would do any patch like that. But I think it's possible that some unofficial mod will appear.

I'm not sure how easy Witcher 2 is for modding purposes, but I guess it should not be really tough to make a patch that removes profanity (it should be very easy to remove it from subtitles, don't know how it looks like in case of speech).

About nudity, I think it may be a little harder, but not impossible.

I LOVE the Witcher because of the excellent RPG elements, the fantasy setting, the story, the monsters, the characters, etc. It is just the profanity that turns me off. It would be like hanging around a cool friend but having to hear them cuss ALL the time, it would be jarring and eventually grating on the nerves.

I want to finish the 1st game, but until I find a patch for the 'Adult' stuff, I will probably not finish it.

Also, its not like profanity happens all the time in the game, but its happened so often and at weird times that it has jarred me out of the immersion because it just seems so tacked on as if American culture suddenly intruded into the game pulling me out of the setting.

Again, I like the GAME mechanics, etc, its the tacked on 'Adult' stuff that really turns me off. I'm going to play Drakensang: River of Time until I find a patch to Witcher 1 that removes the profanity.

I realize this, but at least it would be gracious to offer choices, right? I mean CDProject is known to go all out for their fans, why not just add a simple option? Of course, simple isn't so simple because they would have to probably record separate voice tracks sans profanity. Still, it COULD be done. Maybe there is a MOD out there I am just missing...

I'll chalk this one to "different life experience".
Part of the answer probably is that I don't find half-dressed strumpets very attractive, and there is a distinct lack of any other female life form in the whole bloody game.
