takezodunmer2005: With all do respect my friend, I refuse to even consider purchasing any console from Nintendo...(Unless of course, they consider RPG's no longer such a niche genre)
nondeplumage: Do they? I mean, they did come out with one of my favorite RPGs, the Mario one. And they have quite a few on the DS. Is it Nintendo or the developers just not coming up with RPGs?
DL the emulated snes+roms and you'll see we only received a small fraction of those excellent titles that they would never release here! It's mostly the publisher that usually is a boon or a bust for the dev's titles...(DMR fiasco w/BioShock comes to mind...) nondeplumage: I don't know. I have my PC RPGs, but Nintendo is like George Lucas right now, they just keep putting out Zelda and Mario and re-releasing all their old titles.
My point exactly! While I admit that when they did, (and still do.) they had developed exemplary titles, it's just that they were 6-8 months apart back in the day..So imagine gettin only 1 or 2 RPGs at least 6 months to a year til you would even see another RPG..And at that time games cost about $80-90 frakkin' bucks to boot! (Phantasy star 4 was a whopping $100 RETAIL!) If sony hadn't come along we wouldn't have been able to play another Final Fantasy title probably until NOW! The reason Nintendo sucked so bad as a company was due to their draconian hold on software with the developers, and the tipping point to their downfall (When Sony came along) was when Sony gave 3rd party developers free reign in devvin' for their console where as Sega and Nintendo was much too stingy, with their 1rst party devs taking priority over the 3rd.. I tell ya as an avid RPG'er who was used to only getting 1-2 RPGs a year from 5-8 RPGs a couple of months, (and pay about HALF) I was overwhelmed at what to buy first! So yeah, I'm a bit biased at Nintendo.. ;^)

takezodunmer2005: Simple there is no "Lord" but that's another thread.. ;^)
OT: I get what you're saying about the gratuitous swearing, it's not that you are upset about the swearing as much as it's about the modern tone of the actual words themselves, that make them an out-of place immersion killer...But then again, I wouldn't know, as I refuse to play the game with American voices...Now that's more out of place to me instead of accurate time-period cursing.
Next time, you should be much more precise with the wording with your opening post in your thread or else you'll end-up with it getting out of control like this one where you end up spending your time defending and trying to explain yourself, rather than simply enjoy the discussion. In my experience, the longer these threads become, the more people will simply only read the first post and will react on that, instead of the explanation you gave 5-10 pgs ago.

nondeplumage: But "Ye sir, merily do but follow me to remain untrodden upon by beasts most foul" is just as unrealistic as modern speech. That's crap people at Renaissance Fairs speak trying to sound authentic. "Shit" and "fuck" as a derogatory and slang comes from the 16th century at least, after all.
BrianX: What year is the Witcher series set in? The foul language isn't at all out of place, especially considering the original language is Polish, which boasts a number of impressive off-color expressions.

Which I prefer to hear anyways. And when translated to Ameri* Errr, derivative UK English, liberties were probably taken by localization teams (Though I could be wrong, as I'm not from Poland) Still, the theme of this thread would've taken a much different path if the author's point was clearer from the start. I do agree that Shit, piss, and fuck was around in those times, but I haven't really seen anything approaching modern swearing as I'm not that far into the game (Second chapter) and was simply trying to clarify the OP's point more clearly for myself..I am personally against censorship, it's bad enough that some in congress would just LooooVe to censure the internet, for example...But that's yet another thread! ;^)

I'm with you, BrianX. I almost got it until I saw all the profanity that's in it.
I really hate how tons of people get offended -- OFFENDED -- that you would just wonder if there's a way to get some profanity out of the game. People who can't even have a conversation about profanity confuse me.
If there does become a way to remove the profanity, I might get TW1 and TW2. They look like spectacular games. But the profanity would ruin it for me as well.
Admittedly, I'm a bit more sensitive on the subject than many others. But personal taste is personal taste. And I'm sure my U.S. puritanical roots have something to do with it. But it's still how I am.
I haven't seen any ratings for Two Worlds 2. I'm playing it right now and so far it's pretty light on the profanity. A few swear words and few sexual allusions so far is all. But it could have more elsewhere. It might be a game worth looking into. And it even has the same initials as The Witcher 2 -- so it's like almost playing it. :D

There's a gem of an exchange, late in TW1, that I think sums up this thread perfectly. The mercenary "White Rayla", who drops at least one F-bomb per sentence, meets Siegfried, who is visibly shocked and offended to hear a woman speak that way.
White Rayla ignores him.

bazilisek: You know what a mature RPG looks like? Planescape: Torment. The Witcher is about as mature as jerking off over a porno magazine. It's a good game, but the sleazy sexism of it, in this day and age, just rubs me the wrong way (pun intended, I guess).
EDIT: I haven't read the Sapkowski books. It may very well be they are just like that. But if they are, I'd probably raise the exact same criticism against them.
First of all: Oh yes, Planescape. OH YES. ... Had to get that out of my system. EDIT: I haven't read the Sapkowski books. It may very well be they are just like that. But if they are, I'd probably raise the exact same criticism against them.
Now, you're slavonian. Read the damn books, they're fucking amazing with all the damn profanity in them, fuck it! (it's actually used much more naturally in them than in the game, after all, none of The Witcher's scriptwriters were ... Well... Andrzej Sapkowskij.) They're actually selling re-editions and god knows what else now, I got them when they used to be hard to find!

Tulivu: Come on, BrianX. This has been going on for 7 pages now. You've made your point and have been having the same argument with 4-5 people with no progress since page 3. You can let it go now. I understand and appreciate your feelings but you and thekingcasper could run around in circles for hours. You have new people joining in to make the same argument as the previous 4. Can we wrap this up?
EDIT: Brownies for inspiring an 8 page thread, though.
I would agree my friend. BrianX has been repeating himself for about 4-5 pages now. I mean all he wants is a way to censor himself with a slider button from all the big bad words and porno. That would ruin the vision of the game entirely. I would not want my work to be censored at will. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. There is no such thing as a rating of very mature or a little mature as a correlation to profanity and porno. There really is no pleasing everyone all the time especially BrianX.EDIT: Brownies for inspiring an 8 page thread, though.

Thanks for agreeing with me :) I'm not so alone after all. Its not that you are puritanical or anything but you just have different standards and you may not want to accept certain things willfully into your mind. I know I sounded sanctimonious on this thread and I REALLY didn't mean to come across like that, but the fact is, the closer I get to God in my Christian faith, the more I become sensitive of things like explicit nudity and profanity. I'm no prude or Pharisee, but sometimes enough is enough because it just becomes to over the top and can ruin an experience. I had to stop listening to some of my favorite metal bands because every other word was 'g****mn' or 'f**k.' I really hate how tons of people get offended -- OFFENDED -- that you would just wonder if there's a way to get some profanity out of the game. Sometimes, and it does come down to a personal decision, you must be careful of what you let into your mind on purpose because the mind is an extremely sensitive thing. So, I guess my goal isn't censorship for everyone so they can't enjoy what I find offensive, etc, but to find substitutes (like Two Worlds II like you mentioned), and/or find MODs that tone down or remove the parts that ruin the enjoyment of the other game elements. That is why I stated in my first post that I was looking for a patch or version that would tone down or eliminate the profanity (the nudity wasn't too bad because I could skip it and not be forced to interact).
So, while I am no fan of uncontrolled censorship (face the facts, we as humans DO censor some things in our lives or most of us would probably be in jail or worse!), I think an individual does need to be careful what they allow into their minds on a daily basis. I still watch rated R movies, but I try to find the ones that have a great story and characters and I just grit my teeth through the explicit stuff. A recent movie series that I watched was the Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest series, etc. Awesome acting, awesome story, but there were some scenes in there that were very hard to watch, but they way they handled it fit more into context of the darkness and mystery of the films. So I guess with W1, the profanity and the sex scenes, in my opinion, were not really wisely placed and pulled me out of the immersion. It would be kind of like reading The Wheel of Time series and hearing a dwarf say 'Mofo!' all the time, it would be out of place.
So while profanity and nudity are a very real part of human nature and reality and should be understood rightly, I personally believe humans shouldn't glorify it or magnify it so much. But hey, I'm just a sensitive wuss, right? ;)
But I guess this is also a lesson for is to really research a game before I buy it too.
But I will check out TW2. I heard Risen was good on the PC too and Drakensang: River of Time got an 80 in PC Gamer, so there are other options and substitutes for more sensitive folk :)

The Witcher is what it is. If you don't like it, it's obviously not a game for you. An adult shouldn't have any qualms about the content of the game, but if you do, you can play something else. That's really all there is to it.

Now, maybe you might get upset that I am implying that there ARE certain moral issues that have come to light and can make one feel a certain way emotionally (why am I watching porn and enjoying profanity, etc?), but my slider/options button is a simple solution so that a wider audience can enjoy the RPG elements of the game. You are getting upset that it would ruin the game, but again, ITS A CHOICE for each gamer to make in the game menu.
I mean, come on, if there are options for uncensored and censored music on iTunes, surely games could have that feature in them? Maybe the games industry is still vastly immature and will eventually place those features in... who knows.

Because of the fact I AM an adult means I can have qualms about anything I purchase, its called discernment. I think you really missed the point of this 8 page thread.

bossonova: OH MY GOD BRIANX IS A BIBLE THUMPER, LOL. No wonder you got problems. What you need to do is play games that are just rated pg. leave the mature games to the big boys. eat your milk and cookies in private and be safe so you can keep praying. if you can't party with the big boys don't show up :) as long as man is breathing on this wonderful planet there will be enough censorship to cater to the children and childish people. over and above that you would have to pray a little harder. Well, now that you have figgerd me all out now, I guess you can proudly thump your bibl, err, chest and exult that my reasoning and ideas were flawed from the start just because I love to read the Bible. Tsk, tsk. AND you didn't even respond to my response about the options button/slider being a good idea that wouldn't ruin your porn and profanity experience. Come on now, stay on track Boss, I threw you a small piece of meat earlier and you didn't pounce, but you SURE did when I mentioned the word CHRISTIAN.
Maybe you should grow up a tad and leave your presumptions and assumptions about peoples of other belief systems next to your crib and join the real world of differing ideas ;)
Its funny, but calling someone a Bible Thumper is hilarious because you are the type of 'open-minded' person that would turn around and say "we should treat all people of all faiths and beliefs fairly and not be prejudiced!" Your hypocrisy is showing through your clothes Emperor Boss.
