Just wondering - what exactly would you like to be removed? From Witcher 1 to be specific, as I haven't had time to begin Witcher 2 yet.

Some of the stuff might be easy - for example, there is a version with censored "sex cards", removing some of the nudity.

This isn't censorship, this is someone just wanting to choose a toned-down version of the game. Wouldn't want that myself, but it doesn't bother me that someone does.

Also, I think the Australian version of Witcher 2 is censored, so you might be able to get that. Not sure what it removes or changes, though.

To be honest a censored Witcher 1 & 2 would rip out a lot of what makes The Witcher The Witcher. It's based on a mature setting so making it PG-13 would be like ITV censoring Robocop.

The profanity mainly. Its just so jarring, especially in a fantasy setting, to hear a dwarf or elf say 'C**k Sucker!" I mean, come on, REALLY?! I mean at least be creative and come up with a term that sounds like a curse-word but fits the universe. For example, in the new Battlestar Galactica series, the characters use 'Frak' instead of F**K. That was actually pretty creative. With a fantasy universe they could even be more creative, like having a dwarf say "By Bilbo's Blasted Boxers" or something. A character can still use something pretty extreme without having to use the F word or something worse. I also want to be sure my kids won't stumble upon the game and get the wrong idea.

Have you looked around the modding community yet? It would not be expediant for GOG to make a second version and I can't remember them ever just offering a patch before. TW is marketed towards a "mature" fanbase so you are going to have an easier time finding booby patches than censor patches but you never know.

In my opinion that is just not true. I know a ton of Adult themed TV shows that are PG: Battlestar Galactica, NYPD Blue, and many many more.

If you REALLY want to go 'Adult' then why not GO ALL OUT? For example, why not have a giant white veined penis enter into Triss slowly with fantasy-funk music? Yeah, its a silly example, but the 'Adult' stuff (mainly the profanity) are just so jarring and out of place that it seems the creators just tacked it on to be 'cool.'

Ok. You're probably out of luck then, as it'd require quite a lot of work from CD Projekt to remove all the profane audio. Not all of the profanity is in the random NPC banter either. You may hate it, but it is a part of the world as CDProjekt / Sapkowski intended. :/

I fully agree with you. The only approach I found to make the supposedly "mature" elements of the first game bearable is to consider them a joke at the expense of the terribly sexually repressed Polish developers. Once you start laughing at those things, they become much easier to stomach. Unfortunately, I don't think it would be easy to patch all that silliness out of the game somehow.

As others have stated, The Witcher 1 was originally censored [the sex cards at least] in the US - the Directors Cut patch removes that censorship, so if you can get an original copy of TW 1 US [Enhanced Edition, no updates] then it will remove the nudity in the sex cards.

As for removing the profanity? That would require an entire new re-do of the voice acting for every single line that contains profanity. Not only is it a tad too time intensive for a game as old as TW 1, but it is cost prohibitive [I truly doubt that there would be enough sales of the lower toned version to make up for the increased costs].

Both The Witcher 1 and The Witcher 2 are marketed as Mature games. I hate to say it, but this is a case of either dealing with it or following your personal morals and not playing/purchasing a game that has a rating over PG-13. It is like going into an R-rated movie and complaining about language/nudity/etc - you knew what the rating was when you were going in and, in my eyes, lose justification for complaints when you sit down to watch it knowing the rating.

I mean no offense to the Original Poster, but ratings are there for a reason [whether they make sense all of the times or not - there are some games marked AO that barely deserve the rating, and some games marked Teen that have more violence than AO games; the whole rating system is a tad "off", but Mature/AO games can be almost guaranteed to have profanity/nudity/mature [/disturbing] themes

Fantasy setting does not mean Faerie Land. The games are based on books. Books where action takes place in a dark fantasy universe, not unlike the dark reality. Actually there are a lot of parallels with reality. The "profanity", it adds to the setting.

Point = Missed. There is a difference between mature and adult. Swearing is a part of The Witcher it's just how people talk in that universe and to be honest a stroll down any New York or London street will have you hearing far worse.
