rayven998: Ok, look guys. I can't stop you from spending you're money so, if you're going to pick this up, at least wait till you can find a used copy. [...] (literally hundreds of aircraft on screen at a time! Sweeeeet).
taczillabr: OK, thanks for the recommendations. I'm not that updated regarding the recent games, but I'll browse matrix games to see what they got. I'm looking for some true RTS games too. ;)
I don't buy games at full price. So, IF I buy this game, it will be on a sale for the pc version and after they remove the activations limit.

Talking about sims, what is your opinion on Rise of Flight? Any more WW1 games worth playing?
I bought Rise of Flight practicaly the second it came out. Simply put, there is no other WW1 flight sim currently on the market (and there ain't many) that can even touch this! In fact, not many modern jet combat sims come close to the level of detail and realism modeled here. I don't want to do a whole page review here so I'll just touch on the best (and not so best) aspects.
THE GOOD:
As I've said before, I'm an actual pilot and, while I've never flown an actual WW1 fighter, I have flown a Stearman biplane so I know how they would have behaved. Believe me when I I say the flight model here is just superb. Eeerily realistic.
Damage modeling is just as amazing. A couple of bullet holes through the fabric of your wings and you will instantly notice how differently your "kite" handles. Nice.
Graphics aren't too shabby either. Aircraft are modeled in exquisite (almost photo-realistic) detail. Effects such as lighting, weather and explosions are stunning.
RoF offers full TrackIR support and it actually works very well.
THE BAD:
Only two aircraft are available to fly out of the box: the Spad XIII and the Fokker D.VII (two others, the Albatros D.5 and the Nieuport 28 have since been added via free download). More are promised in the future but you'll have to pay 7 bucks a pop to download em.
This sim is about as "hard core" as it gets and, as such, is VERY unforgiving. It was desigmed by pilots for pilots and, while many settings are somewhat scalable, beginning simers and arcade "gamers" should probably keep their distance. You guys weren't even an after thought here.
This sim has an incredibly annoying "Steam type" authentication scheme which requires you to be logged in every time you boot the sim up! On the one hand, I totally get why. This is a small design house trying to protect their property. Understandable. On the other hand, I've experienced numerous connection problems that have cost me many a fight. PAIN IN THE ASS!!
Finally (and this is a big one for me), there is no adjustment for joystick sensitivity. Pulling off intricate maneuver sets practicaly requires the finesse of a neurosurgeon! Yanking on the stick too much is a quick way to make yourself dead. They've promised to change this in an upcoming patch. Hope so.
There are a few other bugs and glitches that I won't bother getting into as they are all minor stuff and will probably be fixed in the (hopfully) soon to be released patch.
I see I've gone on much longer that I intended so just let me say this: if you're looking for a sim that both perfectly and beautifully conveys the realism and authenticity of WW1 air combat, you just can't do any better than Rise of Flight.
