I just love how this stuff works.

They were already doing this with the service packs. The only thing that would change is that they'll want less money more often.

If it will still be viable to run an old version of Windows (say for old hardware support) I'm indifferent about this change. If old versions expire like a subscription, I'll make due with what I've got until my hardware turns to dust.

Yeah, because PC users and companies are eager to upgrade their OS every few months. They LOVE it, or at least Microsoft thinks so...

If the Windows company is trying to destroy and turn itself to dust, it is executing this task with excellent performance I have to say...

Ridiculous isn't it? New OS rollouts in any company is a big deal. Very complicated, so many things can go wrong, staff have to know how to use it, compatability issues, the list goes on and on...

Perhaps they're abandoning the whole Windows configuration in general and admitting...

Honestly, MS should really quit it with the Apple envy and just focus on making good quality products. The Surface is a definitely a step in the right direction, and while it and WP8 sadly haven't made much of a dent in the marketplace, the Surface is at least one of the most interesting and most promising iPad alternatives out there (pity that our boys over at RIM couldn't hack it).

I'm skeptical of Apple's goal of putting out an OS X release every year, and it's something I actually don't like – I can only see this fragmenting the platform and playing havoc with customers and developers, struggling to keep up on the upgrade train. It's disheartening to see that MS wants to do the same with Windows.

The way it works is you don't actually make huge changes every year the kernel and libs stay the same it's the value adds that change yearly big changes happen maybe every 3 years so programs will run fine for at least 3 years but you might get a better media player, editing software... latest whatever by getting the latest update

Wait, people still use crap that relies on old and outdated XP APIs, that hasn't implemented proper HA and doesn't use Media Foundation on Vista+?
