tinyE: decrement?
Indeed
dec·re·ment /ˈdekrəmənt/

Noun - A reduction or diminution.

Verb - Cause a discrete reduction in (a numerical quantity).

"I'm not the one eating shit. I just put it in the toilet, and whoever is starving for decrement on the other side of the sewage line, say people like you, are none of my concern."

Are we shit eaters or not? If we are "starving for decrement" we are starving for less shit and thus we are not shit eaters. I'm not trying to be a smart ass here I'm only trying to understand what you meant by the comment.

Uh, Apple essentially does it already and I don't seem many governments rushing to stop them.

Hey look, you replied. And here I was so willing to believe you we're ceasing to give a fuck about this thread.
Dad's not gay, I thought you'd at least have a shred of sense enough to understand I was being hyperbolic.
You just keep telling yourself that and maybe one day it'll come true.
Anal fascination? I'm not the one eating shit. I just put it in the toilet, and whoever is starving for decrement on the other side of the sewage line, say people like you, are none of my concern.
No one's eating shit, you however are talking about it a whole lot.
Wasn't a compliment dickhead, I was quite obviously stating you were not worth replying to. As long as I keep getting notifications I'm going to respond to whichever dickhead thinks he's got a half a brain though, because that's the equivalent of calling me out and I won't just let any shithead get away with it.
And yet you replied to me... twice. You don't seem to be doing a good job of showing that I'm not worth replying to.
I don't need to prove shit, that's not what this thread was about. Anyone with a computer and windows 8 who tries to load up steam or any other digital distribution and tries to download a game can clearly see that I'm correct, or perhaps incorrect. I'd be glad to be proved wrong, hurr durr the fucking title is a query as to why 8 clearly is preventing me from using the downloader, instead pointing to the microsoft store. I don't care if you shitheads think this is something that happens "every windows release," the obvious fact of the matter is that this has NEVER happened before. And as said, I actually casually dismissed the rumors until I actually used 8.
And now for the fun part ladies and gentlemen. Proof time!

Here's me in win 8 downloading from GOG and Steam at the same time: http://i465.photobucket.com/albums/rr17/cormoran/win8dll_zpsa41e351c.jpg

As you can see I'm using start8, because unlike the strawman you built up of anyone with a differing opinion to yours being a microsoft fanboy I don't think microsoft did the best with their current OS. It has it's share of problems, but it doesn't do anyone any favours if people make problems up out of thin air. Show us a screencap of this message and maybe we'll start to get somewhere.
Leave it to a fucking retard such as yourself to troll and then trollcall, not like it's original or anything.

But anyways, you can see for yourself just how helpful people have been to solving my problem:
You're real original yourself, mate. :)

I like to think he's a marvellously entertaining troll, because there's no way he could be a real person. I won't allow it!
Well, I wasn't expecting this from the topic title when I clicked on it.

So did the problem ever get fixed?

I will agree that reading this thread has been entertaining.

Hard to say, he didn't take my suggested about posting his issue in the gogdownloader help thread I linked him. Hard to give any help if he isn't providing technical information about the situation, and insulting people only results in sarcastic responses. Then again he burnt his bridges here a long time ago.

There isn't much I can do to help since I don't even have access to a windows 8 machine right now. JCD if you don't want to provide us with more information, then maybe your best bet is to contact support directly.

Now mind you, I am a "shit eater" still using Windows 7 and have no problem with it (and Steam) whatsoever. Is the status quo any different for the other shit eaters on this forum (using Win 8), or does the problem actually lie between the chair and the keyboard of the OP?

I think he has some kind of repressed homosexuality. At least that is what I gather from these two threads.

Apple:-Monopoly lawsuits lost:0
MS:-Monopoly lawsuits lost:... uh I can think of 5 off the top of my head theres likely more...

See when your tiny you can do things like that. When your huge the monopoly laws kick in and well... lets see last time MS was facing the very real risk of being broken up by the DOJ in the EU it's had fines in the billions handed to it!

Just cause apple can do it doesn't mean MS can.

JCD-Bionicman: Further, Gabe Newell wouldn't have publicly claimed "8 is a tragedy" if there wasn't some merit to it. [...] Peace.
Newell (and Notch and others) are not against what W8 is, but if this trend continues what W9 may become. The tragedy was the move towards a walled garden in the future if W8 passes through without any criticism or problems. It was a warning about a trend, nothing do about about any of w8's technicalities.

J_Darnley: It might be true that Windows 8 on x86 allows desktop programs to run but we can all see the future with the Metro store and Windows 8 on ARM. That is only approved software through Microsoft's store.

wodmarach: BULL SHIT! pure and simple no freaking government in the world would let MS do that!
They already have, as I see e.g. ASUS selling Windows RT devices here that can obtain software only from the preinstalled store(s).

For OP: Windows 8 still has the legacy desktop mode which does not have the restriction. So as long as you switch to the legacy Win7-like desktop mode inside Win8, you can use GOG downloader, Steam etc. in there too, or install games obtained elsewhere.

ms don't have a tablet monopoly! There are differences between having a monopoly and not having one. Ms has a desktop monopoly so have to have the browser ballot in the EU, they have to provide a media player free version even! Just because they are allowed to act like other tablet makers doesn't make it TRUE for desktops!

That's like saying mars makes snickers so soon all mars are will have nuts in them! The people bitching are doing it to sound edgy gabe is doing it as advertising not to be a good guy!

"Hey look we're making the steambox it uses Linux so you don't have to use that win8 I warned you about!!!!!111one"

Neither do they have desktop monopoly, or otherwise there would be no PCs running Linux, or desktop/laptop Macs either.

Times have changed from the 90s. Now "desktop PCs" are only one of the many options for people to do their computing and internetting, hence those old "MS has a computer monopoly!" claims are becoming less and less relevant, day by day.

A walled garden is just as lucrative to MS as it is to Apple and others. If they are still prevented from introducing it to "PCs", fine, then they might want to push more and more their Windows RT devices to replace the "old PCs" where they don't have complete control.

There's a reason why many people talk about "post-PC" computers.
