It's actually a little better for business than 7 is.. Included out of the box are a semi decent AV, ghosting, easier set up and the ability for users to move their settings between devices. In effect you can roll back any machine quickly and easily, the users aren't limited to a single machine (nice for those companies thinking of going deskless) etc etc

The only problem I see is that companies tend to use a 1-2 year vetting process which if the Windows blue rumours are accurate is about to come falling down around their heads...

Some of that would be good if they didn't(again) make people use the same interface for tablets AND desktops.

For all the "We need to kill Apple NOW!!!" stuff coming out of MS now, they took the wrong approach. Even Apple, which basically invented touchscreen smartphones, doesn't use the same look interface for iOS and Mac OS like Microsoft is trying to do now with Windows 8.

One size fits all doesn't apply to everything....but try telling MS that. I don't know whether they were just too lazy/cheap to make two separate interfaces(One or tablets and one for desktops/laptops) or they actually thought it was a wise business move.

I don't think it was cheapness. I think they just learned the wrong lesson from Henry Ford by trying to turn every car (PC) into a black Model T (Win 8's similar look). This would basically make Apple the equivalent of early GM, which offered many different cars when Ford was still offering just the Model T.

On the other hand, I understand it's quite crappy for multitasking. Reviews like this one really gives me the impression that for my line of work (I'm a software developer) it would be a nightmare to work with.

Where I work we got a memo from the parent company to not get any machines with Windows 8, and it will be at least a year before the software might be approved and tested properly for it. That on top of the owners of the local branch telling me they didn't want any machines with it on there until they absolutely had to.

If the Windows Blue rumors are true, it will create a nightmare for corporate environments. Thankfully Windows 7 has support until 2020, so there will be time to get things sorted out.

The article nailed it, I think. Win 8 is(seemingly) great for tablets, but not so great for desktops/laptops.

Except that as a software developer you'd spend 99% of the time in the Desktop where it's exactly the same as Windows 7.

Not effectively enough to be Microsoft certified.
