It wasn't really a bad operating system, just at the time it came out most people had older Pc's which ran it terribly, and on top of that it didn't really have great driver support, at least last time I used it. (a long time ago now. :) )

How much has it changed since then?

Since SP 1 it has been a smooth machine, using approximately the same resources as win 7, maybe very slightly more. My reasons for dual booting with it would be to run all the GOG's and older titles I have that just don't work properly in 7 and 8 without tweaks.

Not that I mind tweaking games to get them to run, it's just if I can dual boot, why not?

Yeah why not. You would probably get better results with Windos XP\ Windows Seven though.

Hmm.... Good point. The problem with XP is I don't have my cd key for it, though I have the disc, so it would have to be either 7 or Vista. Lemme check how much space I have on this here drive... I'm tempted to have 3 os's now... Just because I've never had that before.

I never liked vista but I liked Windows ME a lot. I had a lot less problems with it than with Windows 95 that's for sure, but that could of course be attributed to my greater experience with computers as well.

Fun and jokes aside, we often try to make sense of the world by placing similar things in categories were we rate them from the bottom to the top. This game is the best of the series or this game is the worst of the series for example. When a popular opinion is becoming a popular opinion it often inflates radically. If we hear something said more than one time (two or three could be enough) by different people we are much more susceptible to accept it as truth. The interesting thing is that at this point we also are quite susceptible to modify our own memories about the topic to support the viewpoint that we have now accepted as our own. This is essential human nature and not something to criticize, but it is helpful to be aware of how easily your own opinions can be influenced. It is a good idea to be critical of your own memories (and especially people that is supposed to be able to awake hidden memories) since they are revised every time they are accessed.

As for Windows ME I think it has gotten labeled as the worst MS OS partly because of such a collective opinion inflation. Being based on ancient technology and released after Windows 2000 and tight before Windows XP can't have helped either. But I'm not so sure that it really is any worse than Windows 98 and Windows 95. Real mode DOS was removed and that was a bummer but on the other hand there were some improvements to the file manager interface.
I could be dead wrong of course as I'm mostly basing this upon my own experience.

While it certainly wasn't the worst (Win 95 by a long shot), looked at all of them, it was the worst in regards of "time of release". Windows 2000, even for idiot users like me, was the far better product and MS attempts to "branch" their OS into user and pros really worked against them in this way. Luckily, they now do that within a single OS.

But Microsoft has always had backward compability as a high priority. They have gotten a lot of flak for it but that is one of the many things I like about them. All in all they may not be heroes but they are certainly not villains from a user standpoint. I hope they won't be seduced too far into the dark side by Apple.

Yes. But I would expect there would be a backlash against them sooner or later.

In my government analogy Apple OS is a well functioning but oppressive totalitarian state. Microsoft Windows is a representative democracy with all the flaws of that system but allowing a great deal of personal freedom for the individual. Linux variants (before Ubuntu at least) are Anarchism, Libertarianism and other types of "utopian" systems that might work for a small number of dedicated people but never will for the vast majority.

By the way, there recently (a year ago or so) was this Swedish terrorist that hated some aspects of Western civilization so much that he decided to blow himself up in the middle of a major street. He didn't hate everything Western though, one of his last Facebook or Twitter updates was "I love my Apple". It ended well though. He fucked up something and ended up only killing himself.
