I'm just wondering would the games offered here at GOG be compatible with Win 8 since the launch of the new OS is round the corner...
By this point I think it's safe to assume that vast majority will work. As for full compatibility with all Win 8 features, I don't think we'll see that in foreseeable future.
For almost all cases, nothing should differ from Windows 7 compatibility. They should just work as-is (there are likely a few exceptions, there always are).

There's no _official_ compatibility, as the GOG team likely hasn't had time to test the games on a sufficient number of machines yet, and the OS isn't actually available outside MSDN yet.

Windows 8 is basically Windows 7.1 with some tablet/phone gimmicks forced in. Most things (i.e. 99%) that worked on Windows 7 should also work on 8.
yeah, I guess most probably the games should work in Win 8 too, we'll just have to wait and see then.

Going strictly by version numbers, it's NT 6.2.

Win2000 was NT 5.0, WinXP was NT 5.1.
WinVista was NT 6.0, Win7 was NT 6.1, and Win8 is also just another iteration of the same major version.

I know, by 7.1 I was meaning that it was just a minor upgrade from Seven, I wasn't talking about the kernel version ;)
Oh, they'll probably work about as good as anything on MS does. :-)
Ive been running window 8 since release candidate and every GOG Ive tried works.. even sanitarium..

on a side note the 1C cataloge works as well except for a few titles that didnt even work on XP ^_^

my stumbles are the old non GOG'd games like AVP but the reboot though GG works fine... but yeah if it ran in 7 it works in 8 no sweat!

The only games I found that will not work correctly are the ones that require the "Disable Desktop Composition" compatability option, since that feature is gone in Windows 8. The number of games that require that option is fairly small.
Hopefully there aren't any issues.
Remember Kids;

Windows versions are like Star Trek Movies, every second one sucks. (Nemesis notwithstanding ...)

I won't be installing that junk on my PC, not if they paid me. Windows 7 is a lovely OS, and will do just fine until Windows 9 comes along :).

Earlier someone here reported some issues with Gothic in Win8. Did you check whether it still has issues? I recall Diablo 2 was mentioned as well (but it is not a GOG).

When I recently tried the Win8 Preview, of the few (newer) games I tried, Arkham Asylum wouldn't start at all, and Crysis 2 had severe graphics problems making it unplayable. I don't know what the issue with AA was, but according to Google, Crysis 2 case was apparently some DirectX11 issue in Win8 preview, and some got it working by forcing it somehow to use DirectX9 instead, I think.

Crysis 1, Bioshock and Black Mesa ran great though. The performance seemed exactly the same as in Win7, also according to 3DMark11 (I've sometimes read some claiming Win8 would have better performance than Win7, I dunno what that means, at least I didn't see it). My tests ended when the Win8 partition corrupted my Win7 partition. :(

Since I am eligible to the 15€ Win8 Pro update, I think I will buy it, just in case. I will probably not install it, not until something comes that really requires or lures me to upgrade from Win7.

will install gothic tonight, vanill and the fan graphics update... Im running Win8 64pro with the latest ATI drivers... diablo 2 is fine for me. where WIn8 shines in dual monitors where one can do metro stuff and the others a dedicated desktop, you cna then ditch metro and just run 2 desktops.

Look into Start8 from stardock or Classic Shell... check them out!
