I got a new computer and none of my GOG games that use Dosbox seem to work. When I click on the game nothing happens. I tried to run as administrater, run compatability mode, and so on but nothing works? DO I need to download something to play these games on windows? Doesn't Dosbox download with the games - so like if I have Ultima Underword and download it, shouldn't it be able to run, or do I need to so separately download dosbox?

HELP!

They come with dosbox included.

I am using some of the games here of Gog on W8.1 (with Dosbox) and don't have an issue.

Which klnd of error message do you get?

Even with those, most of the time you just have to click on play.

No error message. I click on the icon for the game, my icon shows the "loading" symbol for a second or so, and nothing happens. The games don't launch, and I get no message - this is happening with all dos box games I have for GOG (I have a lot) Is there a computer setting I might have that prevents dosbox from running?
I have also used GOG on win 8 and now win 8.1 with no problems so far. Are your games redownloaded on the new pc or are you running them from a external HD? (not sure it even matters)

Redownloaded on my new computer.
Ahhh, i dunno, i thought most people already understand when they buy a new computer to request windows7???

I have been using windows 8 at work for over a year now and i still hate it, and frankly i think it takes the prize as the worst Microsoft operating system EVER.

As to your problem, are you re-downloading a fresh copy of the games? Because i had a few games not work and then after a fresh re-download GOG has put in some update - and they don't tell you updates are available in your game library.
hmm I have no idea. Maybe send a support ticket over to GOG if no one comes in with any help. I also am not a huge fan of win8 but it has grown on me. Its very touch based and using it on my desktop I just find it unappealing and a bit half assed.
Maybe update your directX, (Not sure it will work but googling it see if anyone else had similar issues)

Sorry I can't offer any advice, but I'm bumping this in the hope that someone else may be able to help you.

IIRC (Sage103082) brought it back to my memory: I had to install directx9c to get some things working.

So give it a try, even as it says NOT for W8.1, but some dll are somewhere needed and they are not included in the newer versions.
Error on win8 ,some conflict in system.
Is there anything in [game folder]\DOSBOX\stdout.txt, or a [game folder]\DOSBOX\stderr.txt?

You mean when installing directx9c, yuo get this error message? So it can not be installed ????

Try going with this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=35

worked for me.....
Hope you get it working. I have 400+ games and have on had one that I couldn't get to work (The Settlers 4). Granted, some of those took quite a bit of tweaking (Tomb Raider: Chronicles was the worst) but they all work fine.

I'm on Windows 8.1 and I don't understand the hate it gets. Especially with 8.1 it works mostly like 7. It certainly isn't the worst operating system by Microsoft. That has to go to Windows ME. Ugh.
I checked my download list and found that I installed as well:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/5/A/95A9616B-7A37-4AF6-BC36-D6EA96C8DAAE/dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe

Afterwards I downloaded & installed Dosboxgames and they worked.

I am not sure anymore, why I installed dotnetfx40, but me thinks it was because of problems ;) And it is like 4 Month ago......
