If unrecognized countries count, the smallest one may be Sealand:

Anyone know some modern-day Ezio's or Altair's? Seems like those types of people could help out in a pinch...

Oh right, we're aiming for Sealand now... umm, how about a version of Shamu that can be useful on land?

Well, we may have a window of opportunity right now. The Vatican isn't actually very well prepared to defend itself, it mostly depends on Italy for that, plus a bunch of mercenaries who've become more of a tourist attraction than an actual security/defense force. So if we can arrange a deal with Italy, we would be off to a pretty good start.

And arranging a deal with Italy might be easier than one thinks at first. The Italian political caste is currently even more in turmoil than usual, we'll just have t find someone who's open to the idea. Someone from the ministry of defense would be great, as he could help us getting further hardware - the Vatican is absolutely unprepared for two or three panzers driving through the cathedral. Anyone who's willing to help can get a share of the loot (there will definitely be enough for everybody). Also, keep in mind that the vatican basically _does_ belong to Italy and only "acquired" its territory through forged documents. All we need to do is finding someone in the military who'd like to rectify this and who isn't opposed to getting filthy rich in the process. Should be possible.

I can't, I'm too busy conquering the galaxy and becoming Master of Orion. Who'd care about the Vatican when he can have Orion? ;) But I thought I could give you a few leads alright. ;)
