JudasIscariot: The games listed never were Windows 7 compatible and the Windows 7 listing was added by coincidence when we were adding in Windows 8 support. Please note that Windows 7 support for those games was only listed for a day or so.
Despite the surface similarities between Windows 7 and Windows 8, we cannot fully guarantee that the games will work properly and hence the reason we never originally listed them with Windows 7 support in the first place. We sincerely apologize for any confusion that this may have caused.
So, now that Windows 8 is out, is GOG no longer working to add or validate compatibility with Windows 7 for other games?Despite the surface similarities between Windows 7 and Windows 8, we cannot fully guarantee that the games will work properly and hence the reason we never originally listed them with Windows 7 support in the first place. Windows 7 will remain the most frequently used OS for a few years and there are many differences between 7 and 8.
Guaranteeing compatibility with Windows 7 should currently be of primary concern. Trying to skip 7 could be a major mistake, since many users will avoid Windows 8 as long as they can.

JudasIscariot: We are still committed to making sure that the games we sell or will sell are compatible with Windows 7 but it's impossible to make every game compatible to where we would be comfortable enough to advertise it as such. Please keep in mind that there's only so much we can do considering that we don't have access to the source code for our games.
But most of the games that are not officially Win7 compatible are reported by users to actually work fine under Win7. Surely it's mostly a matter of you finding the time to actually test them on Win7, note that they work, and label them as compatible, no? I'm not saying this is not a lot of work, but for most of the games, you shouldn't need to actually change anything.yyahoo

yyahoo: Understood, it just seemed strange to me that compatibility testing was done on some titles for Windows 8 but not for 7. I would have thought that you would have tested a title on 7 first before 8. Will you be testing the above mentioned titles for 7 compatibility now that they've been validated for 8? Egotomb

I love the fact that DOSBox games are on the list. Okay then. ... All the games I own from the list seem to run just fine and dandy on my lappie in Windows 7.

I'm afraid you folks are wrong. Those game were tested, and that's why they won't mark them as officially Windows 7 compatible. Some tests were negative. It doesn't mean that those games won't work, they will, in some cases even for almost everyone, but some test showed some problems.
Now we are told that this was a mistake. Ok, I understand that, but that also means that GOG is not doing good with ensuring Windows 7 compatibility. I'm ok with Mac games or Windows 8, but there's still much work to do with Windows 7, and you seem to do very little with that.
Also, with the last update you said you are "even adding Windows 7 support to a few". Could you please list those games? I instantly checked game cards and found out only 16 games are not supported yet, so I removed all supported games from the list I have. And now I had to add tons of games again, but that also means I have no idea what games were marked as Windows 7 compatible with the latest update. Thanks from the mountain.

I must say this is a major disappointment for me. After the last update (Win 8 compatibility) only 16 games didn't have '7' on their game card next to 'Vista'. That is really a bummer then. I was looking forward to buying both "Advent Rising" and "Beyond Good & Evil" when I had money. Really disappointed by this but as you said, there can't be done much to correct the situation anyway. But I do hope that you focus on providing more support for Win 7 since it is a very popular platform (just like XP was once) and not many users would jump ships so easily and get on 8.Despite the surface similarities between Windows 7 and Windows 8, we cannot fully guarantee that the games will work properly and hence the reason we never originally listed them with Windows 7 support in the first place. I just realized I don't even look to see if the games I buy are compatible with 7.

Shouldn't be support for Windows 7 be the prime concern? I'm pretty sure that's the OS most goggers use.

Wishbone: This. Basically, no game should be tested for compatibility with Windows 8 before it is tested for Windows 7. I'm assuming your customer base contains more Mac users than Windows 8 users at this time, so Windows 8 testing really shouldn't be your first priority. As I have said, we test on all of the Windows flavors currently in use, which means XP, VIsta, 7, and now, 8.
