Will Ultima viii and ultima IX be on here?
No, they won't. Grrrrrrr!

:p

We'll have to wait and see.
Ultima IX didn't really run on it's original platform. Talk about a game released as a beta version. I played and thought it was pretty cool, but not the quality of previous Ultimas.
I doubt they'll be carrying Ultima Online anytime soon...and the Worlds of Adventure games are kinda their own thing...so I'd say they already HAVE completed the Ultima games.

Boy, I'm sure glad they quit while they were ahead at number seven...who KNOWS how bad Ultima games after that might have been if Origin had kept going!

They have completed all the Ultima games worth releasing. If you want to play what Ultima 8 should have been, try Crusader or Nox. As for IX, it had potential but was rush-released and half finished. I-VII are all you really need.

I tried Ultima 8 as it was released and found it kinda....scarey. The day/night cycle I remembered from V was gone. The interface looked like VII, but more cluttered and I had zero clue about what to be doing (not that I had any when I played Ultima V, I didn't speak english at the time)

As for IX, I've got it in a box and I actually quite liked it. It's far from the same style as the other Ultima games, but for once it felt like what I'd want, e.g. not getting horribly lost in a big world and having a clue what I was doing. Too bad it was crashing all over and not that nice looking even on release. I actually think it would fit in here well, if only for the sake of completion. Now if there were just some kind of patch to fix all the bugs.
I got Ultima IX here recently. It is everything they promised and then some! It has day and night cycles, character schedules, jobs and skills, and it's challenging as well. Oddly, however, they seem to have renamed it Gothic II...

Just kidding. If you want a really good UIX-like experience but better, give Gothic II a try.

The real Ultima IX was potentially what Gothic II was, but they rush released it to make it to the Christmas 1999 season. We waited enough years for it that another couple of months wouldn't have hurt, and it may have been as amazing as Gothic II.

Still, the first 7 Ultimas are the greatest of the legend and Ultima VII has still not been beaten for feeling like you are a part of the world.
Ultima VII has (obviously) made it to GOG.com. I've heard nothing about a possible re-publication of VIII or IX, but if they do show up, I will almost certainly hand GOG more of my money.

I've found Ultima IX works reasonably well with the unofficial 1.19f patch. The direct3d renderer is now usable, crashing is mostly under control, and the disc check has been removed. I've have yet to try it under Win7 though.

Supposedly this is the product of one of U9's devs who was not content to leave Ascension in the sorry state EA did. Unfortunately he couldn't do anything to fix the game's real problems like the abortion of a story and theme park game world. :(

U9 may be interesting to look at if you like a good car wreck.
How about adding
Akalabeth: World of Doom
as a freebee though?

Nice to know there are some patches for it. When I played it there were no patches and EA had stated there would be no patches. It was the only game I had to resort to turning the clipping plane on and off to pass through things and/or just get out of the "void".
I've always felt sad about the Ultima series (and the Wizardy/Might and Magic series as well) They died such inglourious deaths.

I think the only RPG series that survived from the 1990s were The Elder Scrolls and Diablo.

Wizardry 8 was a pretty good game, I thought.

Yea, but the company (Sir tech, iirc) still died. Those 3 were the king of RPGs during their glory years, but they still died.

Speaking of which, I don't see Wizardy on GoG o.o
