The last remake they did was MDK2 HD, which was eventually released on Steam after a year of exclusivity on Beamdog. It hasn't been released anywhere else. I'm guessing Baldur's Gate will be in roughly the same boat.

Doubtful, the MDK 2 enhanced version by Overhaul went to steam eventually too. Beamdog just isn't a very well known DD site, it's basically as low profile as DotEmu. They can use it cash in on the RPG nostalgia mania that's been in the air since the Wasteland 2 (and now Project Eternity) kickstarters.
BadDecissions: I think it's pointless. There are already something like 25 companions; the problem with BG1 has never been, "not enough companions." Better to work on making the old ones more interesting. Pretty much my thoughts too, but there's no way they'd start actually editing/adding dialogue to existing companions, the project itself has already copped a lot of flak for adding a new zone instead of just a straight-forward enhancement of the game.
That is also my fear too, the new companions will have almost no banters/interactions with the old default companions, they will act like the new companion doesn't even exist in your party. Also they better use a decent voice-actor.
BG:EE will remain niche though, I doubt many modern gamers will buy it once they look at the screens, unless they want to jump on the "old-school" bandwagon (in which case they are welcome).

What better way to expand your business than to be the only site that offers BG: EE?
Everyone claims to hate Origin, yet they buy games like Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3 without hesitation. So I don't see a problem with anyone using Beamdog, since the main thing they're interested is the game and not the distribution platform.

You're acting like nobody's going to know about BG:EE since it'll be on Beamdog. People will know about Beamdog since that's where the game will be sold, and that's how it will be announced.

Personally i don't like BD as a service that much, but i would buy BG EE from it. I already have a few games there anyway. WHat i don't like about it is that their service lacks simple features such as being able to change your account's email address. Also, they don't even have a clear support page/email.

I think it will end up here eventually but that may be obselete in case some modder release some kind of package install so you don't have to fiddle with fixes so much, just install games and one mod and you're done. They have new content but well, it seems high for a fancy DLC for old game though by the time it ends up (if) here it will probably dirt cheap anyway.

Don't think so. They intend to use some online authentication servers / update client requirement or something like that for the game.
In my opinion, making remakes with DRM is the stupidest thing ever but hey, if they want to suck, let them suck.

They're unclear about the details about BGEE. What they are clear on is that it won't be on GOG, which is a really terrible decision.
Anyway, BGEE apparently won't run through Beamdog. You'll download it with it, but you'll be launching BGEE through the BGEE launcher... It seems really dumb. The launcher appears to be there just to prevent it from being on GOG.
Just let Overhaul Games that you won't be buying BGEE until it's on GOG and we might be able to shift them a little bit.

Also, I think steam takes 30% of the profits from all sales, and I assume GOG also takes that much give or take, that would be a big reason.
