In the final pages of the neogaf thread some links are posted to Nintendo officially calling the found menus "a mockup", nothing important, and sweeping it under a rug. All while blocking the function that allowed the exploit.

It's not like they can never announce these games. Look for announcements of slightly altered names of the same games not quite on December 10th (and then leaks of marketing materials that didn't have the names changed!).

Friend codes would be better than locking your account to your system.

Dude, Nintendo doesn't get networked gaming... but this is a new low. Holy crap MS practically gave them a "paint by numbers" way of doing it and getting people to pay for it, how damned hard can it be?

Do they use a committee of punch card developers to design it or something?

Well honestly it's exactly the same as the current Wii system... but that means that the accounts themselves are essentially useless, as the hardware is the only thing that actually matters. Which begs the question, WHY DID THEY EVEN MAKE AN ACCOUNT SYSTEM IN THE FIRST PLACE?
