F4LL0UT: God, you're purposefully ignorant, aren't you? The military is a unique kind of institution, combat is a unique kind of situation. I'm not even saying that women should be banned from any military in the world, I'm just saying that most people asking for equality in the military have no fucking idea what they are asking for and what implications it has.

amok: it is only unique because you say so. Tradition, I guess? There is no reason why women who have the physic and mental abilities to be soldier should not be one. The same reasons as you give has been given why women can't be lumberjacks, wielders, play soccer, be in the police and so... but military is not like them, it is unique - just like they was...
Youre marching forward with the idea that our female combatant lives, works, and dies in a vacuum...

Dude, if you can't tell the army apart from a soccer club you have serious issues.

Jonni: Women have been able to enter the Finnish military since 1995 and attend military service in the same units as men and no major problems have been reported. I don't know what kind of rules there are for real combat situations.
Back when I was in Israel, there was this group of people that looked like small teenage boys and girls in a school trip. What caught my attention thought was that they were all carrying assault rifles.

They were all Israeli conscripts, and I would be quite surprised if half of them, especially the girls, could carry a gorilla weighting 7500 Swedish lods. But I bet they could shoot one with their assault rifles, though.

EDIT: I guess such strict physical limitations may exist mainly for paid armies, not in countries with compulsory service, like Finland and Israel.

That said, I agree with StinginVelvet that if there are physical requirements, they shouldn't depend on your sex. After all, there are smaller and weaker men too, so why should the same requirements apply to them either? Just because they have eggs and beans between their legs?

I'm all for women in combat, as long as the requirements to get in stay the same and they don't impose a quota that needs to be filled.
Hot off the press!

CthuluIsSpy: Closer to 500 years actually. The exact duration of the Empire is heavily debated though.
I personally think the Empire died when it lost Rome (so 500 years), but it could be argued that the Empire truly died after the fall of the Eastern Empire (so about 1500 years).

And no, the fall of the Empire had nothing to do with the gender of its armies. That would be ridiculous.

sibberke: Well, the Roman Kingdom was founded before 700 BC, so if you incorporate that time, and the time of the republic (500 years), you get more than 1000 years. Yes, technically, the 'Empire' only lasted 500 years, but Rome as a state lasted much longer.
True. The Roman nation (republic, kingdom? I don't know what to call it.) lasted much, much longer than the Empire.
Rome only really became a force to be reckoned with during it's imperial age though. That's why people tend to remember the Empire and not the Kingdom.

I try to marching forward with the idea that our female combatant are human beings, just like the male ones. where did vacuum come in to it? I think more people like F4ALLOUT suggest our male combatant's should be kept in a vacuum outside society - being unique - as the males in the military seems to be not capable to behave on control themselves in the same manner as the rest of the worlds male population, both male and female. For some reason - do military turn males only into mindless animals?

and yes, I am putting it in a point here, but I find this reasoning a bit silly.

A person should be judged on own merit, not on which group they belong to. It is really outdated thinking. And the only reason to do so is tradition.

Nothing I said suggests that but whatever, I'm done because I've read enough to know that you're deluded and reason won't work on you. Yeah, whatever, men and women are the same except for the boobs and genitals, nothing else matters. Let's also make sure that 50% of all kindergartners are men, it's ONLY tradition that made women dominate that profession after all. Same goes for any other profession, it's all about unreasonable sexism. :P

And men should be allowed to give birth at the same rate as everyone else. But it ain't gonna happen.
