None of the other forums I'm on ever do giveaways regularly, or even at all. Was it like a domino effect, where one person saw another person doing a giveaway and thought "You know what, I'll do that too!" ? Or is it because everyone here is just really really nice?

Both probably. That, or we're brainwashed to do it.
Well, the gog community probably skews older due to the focus on rereleasing older games, and older gamers probably have more money than time to play due to work. So gifting is a way to support and promote their favorite games and get other people to play them.
Kind and nice people.
There was a Buffy forums a several years ago where some members physically sent each other gifts (that was before it was possible to buy gift keys of books and software online), they even visited each other. And I'm not talking from one town to the next, I'm talking visits across the Atlantic. That forum was even responsible for the creation of a few families.

For some reason the members of that forum were incredibly mature and I'm not talking about their ages. I really miss it. It went down during an upgrade a couple of years after the series ended, the owner, who did not made money beyond what was needed to host and maintain it, never put it back up. There was a couple of tries from the community to host it on free forum sites but it was not the same.
I'm guessing because people who can appreciate older games are more civilized than most people. OR maybe a few people here started being nice, then it spread like a virus. A lot of people became infected and started being nice and now there are so many nice people here. So many nice people here that if you aren't nice, you will feel like a gigantic titanic ass hat unless your name is monkeydelarge. Muahahaha! *flings poo at skynet464*

LesterKnight99: This.
I agree with this 100%

It has also become a place where people can BE generous without being accused of
'sucking up' or expecting to be rewarded for their generosity.
It feels good to be nice once in a while in this sometimes rather cold world. :-)

No, my guess is Swine Flu.
Or constipation.

IT is an incredibly creepy and unsettling Steven King Novel and TV movie. Ugh, that part where the one kid's ghost dad tries to lure him into the sewers (shivers)
