I do not understand why I should pay my bank to convert the currency. Don't they have a program to automatically convert it for them? It should be free and it sounds like they are stealing to me.

Steam, Amazon and many other sites display the British prices. I don't understand why GOG can't do the same.

All this sounds unnecessarily complicated, but then again, if I had my way the entire world would be a single country, with a single currency, with a single language and everything would be simple and perfect and rainbows.

When I take over as God Emperor of Mankind it won't be by a vote, I know what is best for the sheeps better than they do.

Yes, they do. Have a look at MotoGP 14, for example. Instead of showing us $39.99, Steam shows us the prices as they should be. In OUR currency! For me, that's €39.99 (= $54) and for you that's £29.99 (= $51). We're paying 11-14 Dollar more than the US. Honestly? I would LOVE to give my bank a Dollar for doing the conversion...

Steam, Amazon and many other sites charge you an arbitrary price in pounds. GOG charges you the equivalent of $5.99 in pounds.

What is said equivalent though? Google gives $5.99 as 3.52 pounds, xe gives it as 3.52022, oanda gives it as 3.51608, yahoo gives it as 3.5209 and x-rates gives it as 3.520216. Slight differences, but GOG can't know what exchange rate your bank uses. So they tell you the price they will charge you ($5.99) and then it's up to your bank what it will charge for that.

So once again, contact your bank about their foreign transactions policy, and also see if prepaid cards or paypal are cheaper.
I just wrote a very simple javascript bookmarklet to do conversion. My knowledge of javascript being almost null, I'm sure that better can be done but it satisfies me right now. There is no error checking, it does not format the output, the conversion rate is a constant that needs to be manually updated and it only convert from one currency to one other.

javascript:alert(parseFloat(window.getSelection())*1.11565096953);

Replace 1.11565096953 with your price conversion value, I got it by checking how much visa charged me for my latest GOG purchase and dividing by the U.S. price, it's probably off if they charge me a conversion fee but in that case I'd just need to use something in the form of mx+b which I'm sure you can remember from linear algebra class, x would be replaced by the US price, m by the conversion rate and b by the conversion cost.

To create a javascript bookmarklet just create a regular bookmark, put the javasript as the url and name the bookmark what you want, I called it canPrice.

To use, highlight the price, the numeric value only and not the currency symbol, and click the bookmarklet. A window will popup with the corrected price.

I had some trouble when creating it, it did not work when I copied the script from notepad, I had to hand write it, I am not sure what happened.

I'm glad New Zealand was not on that map. With all the crap going on in the world, I hope the world (and America especially) forgets about us.

Pretty sure most of the world thinks of you as part of us. Same with New Guinea etc. Its all "Down Under". As long as they know Russel Crowe you, Hugh Jackman us, no worries, right?
