Seeing as how RE6 was announced and the fifth RE movie is on its way towards release, I got to thinking, "Why is Alice never used in the games?"

I know a main story revolving around her presence wouldn't really be such a good idea (a game based on a movie based on a game? hah), but I think it would be cool to include her as a playable mercenaries character or something. Hell even a split second cameo within a cutscene for laughs. What do you guys think? My theory is that Capcom simply doesn't want to pony up the dough to use her likeness, although I wonder why they wouldn't include a provision to do so with the movie people.

Because she isn't canon or part of the game storyline? :\
^^ See GameRager.

But yeah, that character falls under a movie studio copyright, the cost could be anywhere from $100k to a million USD for the likeness or usage. Also, the entire series is non-canon, making the movie take place entirely in a laboratory, and sequels taking place after almost the entire world population has ended. From a financial and story-based standpoint it doesn't make any sense to even consider.

Also, Capcom is a japanese based studio, and while they'd have had to make a deal for Hollywood to make movies based on the game, the movie wouldn't have had any exposure, or much at all, to the people who actually develop the games.
I know it may be hard to believe but RE isn't about some chick with telekinetic powers fighting zombies. The Alice character simply has no place anywhere near the games. The movies ditch everything that was important about the plot in the games and anything that they did use (characters, locations, themes) are similar in name only.

Even in Mercenaries?

Wouldn't she be too overpowered in Mercenaries? She can kill hordes of zombies with her mind and kung fu fight with Nemesis after all.

I know, that's why I think she would be a good "final unlock" character, with like a five-star everything requirement that would allow her to be used to simply mess around with in-game after you've already achieved everything. Either that or they would have to nerf what she is capable of in the films.

If what QC says it's true and Capcom'd to pay the studio and/or (most likely) the actress to have her likeness appear in a game it just sounds like a lot of effort for something so unimportant.
I can't speak for everybody but I hope that most people that liked the games disliked or were indifferent to the movies. I know I hate them (specially for what they did to Wesker) and most people I know that liked the movies weren't gamers at all.
Now who really cares about Alice? They already ruined any chance of redeeming the movies, so now they are off in they're own little universe using the RE trademark.
truthfully I think she is a hollywood-a-fied version of Ada Wong, they probably would have even kept the character intact had the director been fucking an Asian chick instead of a European bag of bones tied up with a miniskirt.

sadly twas not the case and we are now fucked with "Allice" instead of what could have / should have been a line of movies recounting the events of the games from an "Ada's side" perspective.

May I ask why? I fail to find any redeeming qualities for those movies, the last one was specially bad and painful to watch (may have been the 3D though). If they had stuck to using only movie created characters like on the first movie they'd have been at least bearable but every game character that made a movie cameo was a mockery of its game self and horribly casted to add insult to injury (Why the fuck did they pick the chick from Heroes to play Claire? What were they thinking?).

Because I like a good mindless action flick every so often and don't let my views on a movie's source media(book/game) taint how I view the movie itself?

And as far as mindless action flicks there are plenty of those to choose from that are better movies or at least good. IMO the source material was the only thing that could have saved those movies but they made every decision to not use it.

The key word here is mindless......I could care less if it's cheesy or goofball or not as good as the source material as long as I find it enjoyable and it keeps me entertained. ;)

If you think of them as being a totally different product(which they are almost beyond a few similarities) you'll enjoy them more I think.
