People are extremely skeptical of the iPad, and for good reason; it's a glorified iPod Touch touted as the best tablet there is. Though it fails in being a computer, what I discovered when I got my hands on it inside the belly of the beast (my local Apple store) made me more interested in the thing than ever before.
I waited in lines and lines to try it out. The entire store was packed with people, looking down on the giant slates of light like they were window-gazing into a window of a shop, peering at all the wondrous presents that they wish they could have. When I finally laid my grubby mitts on the monstrosity, I went to the games at once, as any gamer would most likely do. Plants vs. Zombies was nice, I was confused by Zen Garden, and Flight Control was a bigger version of Flight Control (still an amazing game). But what really grabbed me was Real Racing HD. I jumped into a race and it put me in the cockpit view. I was surrounded by the view, and it was breathtaking. As I sped around corners and positioned myself in front of other racers, there was this level of immersion I had rarely felt before. It sounds silly when I'm describing it, but it was truly an awesome experience.
There are several cons to the device; it would make me look like a tool when I whip out this giant fucker and tilt it like a madman, I am absolutely afraid of what would happen if I dropped it, and the price point is murder. Nevertheless, those fleeting moments I spent in a cockpit like that were amazing, and I couldn't help but feel that if other game makers take as much advantage of the screen space as the makers of Real Racing HD do, it could really be an amazing thrill for all involved. I doubt I'll be getting one anytime soon, but it holds more wonder for me than the iPod Touch or iPhone ever did.

Aww, come on... you have to admit Apple makes neat gadgets. You can argue price points or design foibles (like batteries) all you like, but the gadgets themselves are nifty. They are not my thing, personally, but I DO think they are cool technology.
I agree that it is incredibly pricey, but you could always just steal one. (I would like to think of myself as a great mentor to TheCheese in his maturing years)

Yea sure, it's like communism. It sounds great on paper, but when you actually buy one of their things... it wears off REAL quick and you start to see the flaws. In fact, I've got someone coming in 5 minutes to buy my Itouch off of me. Why? I dont use the stupid thing anymore! 3 months and it's already boring me to the point where it has a full battery for days on end because I don't even touch it even tho it's in my pocket whenever I'm bored. The thing was too good to be true, and now I want my 145$

Hahahaha, fair enough. But, at least they are innovative flaws, right? :P
In all seriousness, I think they have brought some really cool ideas to the market. However, I do agree that they are not always great with applying those ideas in the best way possible.

Yea it is great in concept, and they do a great job of making things look fancy, simple and shiny. And thats why Apple is home to super simplified trendy, overpriced garbage.
Apple products are for the people who want a gadget that's sexy and simple. It doesn't matter if it's expensive, because something probably won't go wrong with it.
Not appealing at all for me personally.

"Garbage" might be a little strong, but I agree with the sentiment.

Yeah, this pretty much sums up the point I was trying to make, but much more succinctly than I was accomplishing. (I had several paragraphs typed out that I deleted before posting)

Have you ever owned an ipod? I bought mine and it broke id say 7 times before the warranty ran out. It wasn't because i didn't take care of it i treated it like a new born baby. They would give me a new one every time and one time i got it back from the shop and it broke 2 days later. But luckily the last one didn't break until i accidentally broke the screen 3 years later.
Enjoy your overpriced plastic crap. May I sell you some of my LEGO stuff? $30 a piece, and they almost have the same functionality as the iPad. Then again, so does a rock, and no doubt you can find one of those in your driveway. Heck, a rock can even multitask.

Damn, I have never owned an Apple product nor have I used one but that's pretty bad. All i've ever heard is good reviews.
I own a old (4-5 years I think?) 30GB Zune (original brown color) it's still awesome. I've dropped it on the sidewalk, wood flooring, and even accidently got it wet. It's a little big for most people just not me, I have big hands and big enough pockets to hold it in my shirt pocket. Most people think it's a PDA and/or ugly but I don't care. (Also Zune Marketplace is DRM-free)

His experience has not been mine. I got a 20gb classic model iPod as a gift around when that storage size first came out (7 years ago, give or take?), and the only problem I have had with it was having to replace the battery a year or two ago. Given how much I used it, I don't think that was a bad lifespan for a battery.
Had my experience been even half as bad as his, I think I would feel about the same way he does about the subject, however.

I don't know about iPods, but iPhones are the single most error-prone cellphones on the market. Insurance companies released data last year showing that the iPhone broke down significantly more often than the second worst phone on the market.
Honestly the only thing Apple produces that's good from a technical standpoint are Macs. They're very good computers.
