SimonG: Do you feel like a hero yet?
To be honest, I feel like shit.

And who said achievements were worthless? I checked the global statistics for a certain couple of mutually exclusive ones, and became even more depressed than before.

Bloody hell, this thing certainly is unique.

God, one of the creepiest fucking quotes ever.
Yahtzee actually had some compliments for it (which is a rarity) so I guess it cant be all bad.

Im just not much of a military shooter type of guy. Those games tend to bore me quite a lot. Especially one in modern settings.

Wishbone: Can anyone comment on the PC port? The game has me officially intrigued now, but the SteamWorks integration deters me from buying the PC version. On the other hand, I'm not fond of playing shooters on consoles. Using a controller for precision aiming does not come naturally to me. However, if the keyboard and mouse controls of the PC version suck anyway, I might as well bite the bullet and get the PS3 version instead.

So how are the controls of the PC port?
Unplug your game pad or it assumes you want to play with it and all tutorial prompts will be for it (which is annoying), other than that you can't really tell it's a console shooter.

bazilisek: They're okay, really. I didn't even feel the need to fiddle around with mouse sensitivity which I usually do. They do their job just fine.
I did have to lower mine as mine is super sensitive already, I couldn't aim at the guys in the distance properly.

There were times that I felt genuinely queasy. Especially as the foreboding I got from a particular piece of intel started to nag at me later in the game (I'd discarded the idea as "probably not" after fiddling with it mentally), the whole thing was a disturbing mindfuck towards the end, and yet you had to fucking know what happened.

"Welcome to Dubai". I had to force myself to play that ending. It made me fucking sick.

Military shooter is a setting, nothing more, it's merely the method they picked to move the story forward. Put it on On The Beach mode (the easiest setting) and do it.

You have to play on a harder difficulty. You need to die in that game. The loading screens are part of the experience. And you really need to push yourself to win. Always push forward, somebody has to be the hero.

SimonG does make a good point, dying will clue you in to more of what's going on. I cannot say more, though, without spoiling it.

Given the choice between someone not playing it at all and playing it on easy mode, I'll tell them to play it on easy mode, this is one of those games that only shows up 2-3 times a decade and it should be played.

I was following your progress trough your achievements while you played. Very interesting. You showed restrained were I didn't. You also showed mercy, that I did not. But I was able to deny what was in front of me. Which you should do. For the Glory.

I assume that it's cover-based though, right? Or is the cover mechanic just a crouch button? I hate sticky-walls cover mechanics with a passion, although I managed to overcome it in order to play Mass Effect 1+2.

Sticky wall mechanics, better done than ME, though. There have been complaints about them, mostly with the game pad controls, I think. With a mouse I saw only one or two issues the whole game. With that said, there's never anything pushing you to rush in, you just take your time and go slow. The worst thing that happens is running from the grenades. If you die, the same enemy will start tossing every time, just keep an eye on him and when he raises his arm unload, problem solved.

I crossed the line that should not be crossed, I'd had it by then and couldn't take what had been done. The innocent and scared were no longer innocent and scared to me at that point.

And the really creepy thing is, I usually always be the good guy. It just comes natural. In that case I could hardly wait till the cinematic was over. Holy crap, that game is creepy.

Yeah I had the itchy trigger finger too, I was fucking pissed by that point, especially since I died like 4 times on that fucking boat trying to get there in time.

Don't remind me. I had a shitty load-out and died more than just four times. Ironically enough, everything after you meet R was somehow easier for me on FUBAR than on the "hard" difficulty. Even the dreaded beginning of that chapter were I died hundreds of times (give or take).

Hmm... I'd much prefer just to have a crouch and a jump button. I think sticky walls are meant for lazy players who can't be bothered to figure out if they're covered or not, and for lazy developers who can't be bothered to develop proper collision detection between players and bullets.

Still, I survived ME1+2 and even enjoyed them (although the changes from 1 to 2 convinced me not to bother with 3), so I can survive this, I guess.

Damnit, that means I'll have to buy a 3rd party SteamWorks game. That may not seem like a big deal. After all, tons of people buy them every day, but for me, it's always been a firm principle.

Buy from Amazon, it's cheaper there anyway. In this case principals may be better served by proving this game is important to people. Tell the publisher you only bought a Steamworks game because they bothered to do such an outstanding job on the story line. Encouraging more of this is something of which most gamers should be in favor.

I think I'll be buying it retail when I do buy it. It won't be for a while though.

But yes, sending the developer/publisher an email is an excellent idea.
