Has anyone who has discovered so many of these old awesome GOG PC games for the first time felt this way, having grown up on the Atari, NES, SNES, Genesis, whatever?

I grew up on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum 8-bit home computer (O believe it was the Timex Sinclair in your part of the world :P)
I did have a Megadrive/Genesis and then a PS1, in my late teens, so I guess I grew up on a mixed bag of systems.
I went PC in the mid 90s - and have barely looked at a console since - I did have a PS2, but sold it after only using it maybe 4 times in 6 months....just didn't grip me the way PCs do ^_^

Dont feel bad, Pong came out when i was about 9.

I grew up on the C128/C64 and stayed there until I got a 486 PC in the mid 90s. Just didn't have money for a new computer before that.
Loads of fun things on the C64 too, but I were still envious of people who could play Sonic the Hedgehog on their consoles, backwards though it was not having a proper joystick instead just having that there flat piece of thing with more buttons than were good for it (4 on the NES)

Bought an old Amiga in 2000, and a PS2 in 2003, but until I got my XBox360 I'd mostly been playing PC games. And the only reason that doesn't quite hold true so much anymore is 1. bother with copy protection and 2. It's easier to throw a disc into the console and lean back in the couch after a tirering day of work.
Had the console not had wireless controllers I'd have hooked my gaming PC up to my TV and gotten a wireless keyboard and mouse setup by now.

Consoles weren't big here in Denmark. Here, the major platforms were the C64, then the Amiga and then the PC. The early Sega consoles had a market here, but I didn't personally know anyone who had one. Nintendo basically didn't exist here until the first Gameboy came along.

I grew up on Nintendo 64. Proud of it, too. There's never been a bad generation in consoles, just like there's never been a bad generation in PC gaming.

That is exactly what is happening today. Publishers try to bring gameplay experience from a pc to consoles but this just doesn't work. They should build on the strengths of a console instead of for example to do FPS on a console instead of a plattformer that has good gameplay on a console.

PC gaming is indeed very different to a console in more aspects than just control with KB+mouse. You can also concentrate way better on small details on a pc in contrast to a TV screen. Most noticeable in FPS and RTS. Even if you would play a console with KB+mouse the gameplay would be different. When you see today that many games on XBOX and PS3 are FPS which have poor gameplay it really makes you think hmmm are customers really that dumb ?

Same here, I grew up on PC games and it's just now that I'm discovering the many many jewels of the classic consoles (thanks to the emulators, mainly); right now I'm absolutely delighted with Streets of Rage, man what a blast!
Now that this comes out, is there any chance that GOG could offer some of these console titles as well?

nope not me. the nes and snes were both awesome. I don't see anything on the pc that was available back then makes me feel like I was wasting my time with consoles

SEGA released many MEGA DRIVE classics on steam and many other DD services so if they join GOG someday I'm sure they will make their way here

I grew up starting with an Oreck Atmos 48k, spectrum 48k and 128k, various amigas, commodore 64, low end early PC, a master system and NES, then mega drive and SNES, sega saturn (better PCs along the way), PSOne, PS2, PS3, more PCs and laptop, I might eventually become a traitor and get an Xbox 360 (even though I personally hate the whole pay for online thing, and not keen on xbox controllers and multiple discs but one or two games on there might be worth the console... maybe)

GOG has not introduced me to games from before I started playing as much as it has introduced me to games I missed the first time around because I played a lot less games back in the day. As a teenager and then young 20's guy I was going out a lot, was more social, watched more movies and TV and stuff like that, so I missed a lot of games. Now-a-days I have a lot more home time and barely ever watch modern television, so GOG gives me a quick and cheap way to experience some games I missed.

I grew up on the NES and SNES and don't regret that. For a young kid I think those systems were the best things ever. Around 93 or so I got into PC gaming, switching over completely by 94/95 (though I did keep playing Final Fantasy and some other JRPGs on Playstation for a while). Pre-1993 PC games are hard for me to play, I'm too used to conveniences and standards of my era.

Started on Apple II => PC XT => Pentium => Core 2 Duo.

However - did pick up a PS2 couple of months ago and do enjoy playing some of the games - God of War, Resident Evil 4 - dislike the button mashing though...

And FPS - the only way to play is with mouse/keyboard combo..

I do find that PC games seems to have more variety from arcade to strategy to RPG... more so with the older games
