I started with the NES and SNES. My family didn't have the money for a computer when I was quite young (all of my consoles were hand-me-downs from older relatives), so it wasn't until I was 17 or so that I actually started getting into PC gaming. I wasn't really disappointed that I grew up on consoles, though. I was just glad to be able to play more great games.
Well, you'll always miss out one SOME stuff, especially since it was very rare to have several consoles/computers around during the 80's and the 90's. My list looks something like this:

From 1988/89 to 1997 I went through these computers, owning only one at a time.
Commodore 64
Amiga 500
Amiga 1200

Then in '97, went multiplatform with PC and PS1. After that I bought and sold old systems that I had missed out on, like the NES, SNES, N64, Megadrive, etc. From the PS2 generation, I've owned all consoles on the market plus a PC and an Amiga.

So I kinda missed out on the heydays of Nintendo and SEGA myself, but I don't really regret it, because my Amiga is still my favourite piece of hardware ever. :)
I guess to eleborate on why I guess for the reasons that consoles are more sociable than the pc and often cheaper for families to afford and require a lot less technical sense to operate being the reason why most of us played generally more on a console growing up.

In couldnt imagine myself twiddling with gpu settings and applying patchs as a 8 year old and the games on the pc at the time were generally catered for the more adult audience if the older gogs are anything to go by.

I took this post from my clan forum and have edited some of it to make it more community Friendly:

I had a spectrum when I was like a lil kid, then 2 amigas(honest cant remember what)

First I guess real "console" was the mega drive, I did also pick up a game gear and a GBA in that era

I was one of the few people that chose getting a saturn over a psx to start, though some of the games was good was it was generally a bad idea, though I was always over my friends playing the psx when I was like 12 so I guess i had both.

Picked up a psx and had one for a long time Though I bought an n64 after a friend didnt want it, Sold both of those to pickup a dreamcast(still a great machine and used the bootdisc so I could play imports) Though I did buy 30 games, I was more into pc gaming then so I sold them all to get a ps2 had that till it overheated)

Bought a gamecube solely so I could play all the Resident Evil games that came out exclusively for it.

Sold that after I got an xbox which were underated in comparision to the ps2 great little system as well.

I sold that as I was never around to be on it 18 in a LTR etc and didnt really play much apart from vietcong(best balanced pc shooter ever multiplayer imo) whenever I was in.

Picked up a 360 upon release and played that heavily till cod4 came along(Best competitive fps ever played over 250 matchs in a clan in that game), Then didnt get touched, When I had to move back in due to money issues it sat in the box for nearly 2 years.

Got a ps3 and was like wow these arnet great and seldomly use it now, Got heavy rain and still havent played it.

Dug the xbox 360 back out a year ago and waited to get the slim in a which I did at a bargain price due to some store special with games. There is a wii in my house though I didnt buy it and have used it once.

I also plan to pick up a Pandora once they have done some more work on the game emulation
http://www.openpandora.org/

May even get a 3do once I get out of debt as it was the one I wanted and never was allowed to get as they were to expensive at the time and I was young and couldnt work to get one

So to summerise
spectrum
Amiga
Mega Drive
Game Gear
Game Boy Advance
Saturn
Psx <---- Last one I didnt buy with my own money
n64
gamecube
ps2
dreamcast
xbox
xbox 360

TheCheese33: I grew up on Nintendo 64. Proud of it, too. There's never been a bad generation in consoles, just like there's never been a bad generation in PC gaming.
I beg to differ there. The current generation has not been that great and has turned me off modern console gaming. Haven't turned on my 360 or PS3 for months. In place I play mostly retro stuff, both console and PC, and a small number of new PC games.

I wouldn't say it has been a BAD generation... just these days the differentiation both between consoles and pcs as we as between the major consoles has been small. There have been some exclusives, but as others have pointed out these days they just treat them as PCs with control pads, or treat the PC like a big version of a console.
I grew up on consoles mostly as well, playing PC games for a while until our computer couldn't handle them anymore.

I don't really feel that way, I like having a big backlog of good old cheap games to play. Saves from me from considering paying the premium for stuff like Starcraft 2, Wow, etc.

All the good games from this generation of consoles are on Wii, you know it to be true.
My first system was an IBM PC jr. I played Zork and Planetfall on it. Sort of miss it. Kind of miss DOS.

Predated my NES.
Attachments:
I first had an Atari 2600.
Then, a SEGA Master System.
Later, a Super NES.
Finally a Playstation.

Ultimately, I've been all about my PCs since 1996, when I first got one.
Please note that it divided my attention with the PS1 in the first years. XD

Then what were you saying? Speaking entirely of console exclusives mind you. (or games that are exclusive to the 360 and PS3)

I don't know what's so hard to understand. You said "All the good games from this generation of consoles are on Wii". Meaning there are no good console exclusives on the ps3 or 360. That statement is a load of shit

It wasn't meant to be a serious statement.
