Right now, GOG has a few. There's Deadly Premonition, La Mulana, Guilty Gear XX #Reload, and Street Fighter Alpha 2. GGXX#R is a woefully outdated version of that game and SFA2 is a bad port, so they're barely worth mentioning. Maybe there are a few others I forgot, but the lineup is, quite frankly, pathetic.
Where's Capcom, beyond that shoddy SFA2 port? Where's Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5, Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Dead Rising 2, and the upcoming Strider?
Where's Sega? Sonic Generations, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, Jet Set Radio HD, and Binary Domain would be fantastic to have DRM-free... not to mention all the strategy games currently under Sega's banner, like Company of Heroes and the Total War series.
Where's Konami? I would kill for a DRM-free copy of Metal Gear Rising, and I'm sure some poor soul might want to slog through Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.
And what about all the more niche titles, like the Falcom games published by XSEED (Ys, Trails in the Sky), the just-announced Killer is Dead port, or the soon-to-be-released PC port of Treasure's Ikaruga?
These games would lend a heaping of variety to GOG's lineup. The character action and JRPG genres are non-existent (Silver, Anachronox, Septerra Core really don't scratch that itch), and even some of the over-represented genres on GOG, like platformers, would benefit from a bit of Japanese panache. That, and most of these games are ideal fodder for those who have their gaming PC hooked up to their TV for "comfy couch" gaming. There simply aren't enough of those in the store right now. Japanese publishers are really starting to double down on PC releases for both their new games and re-releases of older titles, and getting them on-board could only be a good thing for GOG going forward.
I realize it's easy for some to dismiss this as "GOG losing their focus on old games," but the simple fact of the matter is that the site is diversifying its offerings. Getting Japanese publishers on-board could bring some old games onto the service (namely, some of Sega, Falcom, and Capcom's back catalogs), but it'd bring a lot of modern classics into the fold, as well. For fans of those genres that Japan specializes in, DRM-free releases would be a massive boon for the store.
So, why do we see so few Japanese games on GOG? Is it a lack of interest on GOG's part? Is it the language barrier (which Treasure previously cited as a difficulty when working with Valve to get Ikaruga on Steam)? Is it a hesitance on the publishers' part to put out DRM-free versions of their games? And, more importantly, what can we do about it?

Japanese publishers do not support the PC format in Japan. GOG will not sell games that they cannot sell worldwide. So that's why you won't see much (if anything) from SEGA, Konami, Bandai Namco Games, or others.
There are currently only 3 Japanese publishers that support PC gaming in some capacity in Japan:
Square Enix - Make most AAA games available after delays of several months. older games available worldwide from all services except Steam
Capcom - Make some recent AAA games available. Most games for which rights are held by Capcom JP (and not Capcom US) are not available in Japan.
Bethesda Japan - So far has made all titles available. Still listens to community requests (such as for language options). It won't. There's no way the Japanese publisher will okay that.

Japanese devs have barely made a scratch on PC gaming scene and they love their DRM.

I'd like to see Final Fantasy IX here. It is my favorite Final Fantasy game. The half monkey Protagonist. The beautiful fantasy setting. Truly a masterpiece. Cloud and Squall can kiss my rear end.

If GOG could get the old KOEI games, you might know them for the Dynasty Warriors spam of recent years, but in actuality they made great historical grand strategy games and openworld games in the past, games like Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Genghis Khan, Bandit Kings of Ancient China, PTO, Uncharted Waters, etc. If those came to GOG, it'll be really neat!

As a bad example, I point no further than Nintendo's alien approach to everything.
"Nobody is buying our overpriced gimmick-laden handheld because they don't want to pay extra for a shitty 3D feature that everybody turns off after 5 minutes anyway and then never use it again. How do we solve this problem? I know, we'll make a cheaper version without the shitty 3D gimmick. So far so good, anything else? Oh yeah, let's make it huge, and make sure that unlike all its predecessors it doesn't fold in half, defeating the entire purpose of having a handheld in the first place. That'll make them want to buy it."

I'm guessing he's referring to the PSP ports of FF 1, 2, and 4; which one could reasonably call improvements over the original releases.

I think it's because Japan has always been the leader in console production, and in that country those were a lot more widespread than the far more expensive PCs of the time. Now japanese people are so used to consoles that they see PCs only as work tools (or at least, that is what a japanese guy once said to me). You could rightly point out that today many games are also ported on PC, but remember that they are exclusive property of big corporations, and you know they don't feel much love for DRM-free policies.
tinyE: A little side note to the OP and maybe I'm showing my age, but Konami has always put out top quality games. :D When I was a kid I didn't care what the game was, if the NES cartridge said 'Konami' on it then I BOUGHT IT!!!! Contra and Jackal remain timeless.
Some will say Capcom did alright but I always hated their NES games; they were too damn hard. Agreed! Always loved Konami games, and I remain a loyal customer even today!
The satisfaction after beating Castlevania 3 or surviving an entire level of Contra... ah, those were the days! ;)
That said, I liked very much Capcom games, too, especially Megaman. This is not a NES game, but would you belive me if I said that I managed to beat Ghouls'n'Ghosts for the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis in the US, if I remeber correctly)? Think I threw away, like... 6 ours to complete it!
The only NES one that I played but never completed is Ninja Gaiden. I had to use an emulator with a quicksave to see the end! The last boss is extremely hard!

EDIT: Here you go:
http://www.gog.com/forum/general/games_that_are_unofficially_confirmed_for_release_in_the_future_part_2/post189
(the Facebook link there doesn't seem to be working for some reason)
But yeah, I agree it would be nice to have more games (also newer ones) in GOG. :) Maybe many publishers are still overzealous over DRM, too bad then. I vote with my wallet.
And I must confess I didn't realize La Mulana is a Japanese game. Oh well, can't know everything.
