so I've been lurking on the gog forums for a bit and I've noticed that there are quite a bunch of game giveaways, is there any kind of reason for for there to be this many or is this because people on the forums (mostly i guess) are great?
do note that I am not complaining because you know... I've entered in a bunch of them

I understand your confusion. People doing nice things for other people without expecting anything in return... I just don't get it :P
No reason. Some sort of self-generating trend. When you see lots of awesome giveaways, and recieve gifts by random people, it strongly makes you wish to be on the gifting side sometimes. In a way, I see it as relieving you from sort strange inhibition to gift complete strangers.
so far i've spent a lot of time on the wow forums (mostly to laugh at self entitled people) and reddit so i've never seen actual kindness ^^
There are a number of people on this site that like to further the cause.

There are also a lot of people that like to make people dance around like their own personal flying monkeys (I fall into that category).

There are also people that just like to make people happy. A lot of us are professionals, and really don't mind chucking a $5.99 into a tin. It's preferable to giving it to the guy destroying my eardums at the station.

This is so true!
I got gifted the Sega Mega Drive Classics (still playing and enjoying them!) and Divine Divinty.
Now that I have a little money myself I'm actually considering doing a giveaway although I still have games like the Gobliins Pack on my wishlist that I could buy for myself instead. It's strange.
i was hoping some kind of evil conspiracy behind this but really? generosity?
lets hope that the dicks don't come this way then

If you don't have anything to play yourself, then use the money for yourself first. It's like in those safety drills for the airplane - the mother has to put the oxygen mask first, then on the baby :))

My computer just died so I'm using an older laptop which limits my gaming possibilities somewhat.

But I guess, I always have something to play.
I haven't finished all levels of the Even More Incredible Machine yet, I wanted to give Divine Divinity another try, I'm still playing games from the SEGA Mega Drive Classics and if everything fails/bores me there is always neopets. (And on some evenings I can even get my hubby to join me for a hotseat game of Master of Orion 2.)
So REALLY running out of games is not likely to happen currently.
But I'd really like to have the Gobliins Pack, just out of nostalgic game greed.

Good to know :P
GOG community is mostly people who have a deep nostalgia for classic games, and are happy to share that experience with others. GOG community also tends to be a bit older than other gaming communities, and have higher disposable incomes.

Since you have some extra cash, may I suggest you buy Sacrifice? It's one of the best games you've never heard of, and it'll show what a real game is supposed to look like.
The people around here are pretty chill, I can assure you it is because people are just being nice. I won a few games here, no ulterior motive
Money laundering. GOGs are DRM free and therefore can't be traced.
