So who's buying the trilogy for the umpteenth time?

Unless the damn box says original theatrical release, they can produce one less copy for me. Actually, any word on that end? Can't seem to find anything.
I will probably get them. First Bluray release is unlikely to be the original theatrical versions I suspect Lucas will hold them in reserve for another anniversary release boxset with both film versions.

I was excited when LOTR was finally announced coming to Bluray then less so then it was announced it was the original theatrical versions and not the special extended versions so i'm going to wait for that inevitable boxset.
I don't really care that much about the whole original version vs the 1997 edition debate. (I do prefer the original, but I don't care that much.) I doubt I will get it until it's cheap, as I already have the DVD set.

Same goes for the LOTR set they released. It wasn't extended edition, so I saw no point. Plus I have the DVDs.

The theatrical releases on DVD were only Laserdisc rips. Lucas Films would actually have to do some work to remaster them for Blu-ray. It might take a while. Or maybe they are hoping the elderly nerds will just die already and save them the trouble.
Star Wars original 3 is one essential group in my collection but I'll never get these.

I've mentioned it before, but check out the ADYWAN fan-made re-edits, they improve Ep 4 and Ep 5 significantly.

I'm not sure about Ireland, but the Extended Edition Blu-Ray Box Set is due out in the US on June 28th.

Thanks. At least that gives me time to save for it. I'm sure the price is going to hurt.
The DVD release pointed out the terrible effects enough. I think I'm out on this one.

We'll never see Han shoot first again, I own no copies of Star Wars, period. I think years ago my (at the time) wife bought me Phantom Menace thinking I liked it or something. I pretended to. I should microwave that thing if I still have it...

It's handy to have on the off chance you meet George Lucas. You can shove it in his big fat mouth.
Fuck that! There's a great torrent of Empire in HD that I downloaded in protest.
If you really want Star Wars in its original form I'd suggest you wait for it. When Star Wars first appeared on DVD they deliberately released the remakes first and then a dual release (with both versions) a while later. It's a safe bet that LucasFilm drools at the thought of repeating this with Blu-ray. Giving fans what they don't want first is a great way of getting them to pay twice (well, by this point, five or six times).

The fun is only just getting started too; all six films will be hitting cinemas in glorious 3D, starting with The Phantom Menace in 2012, and you can expect to see 3D-enabled Blu-rays of each appearing shortly after its big screen debut. As with every re-release another attempt at Han not shooting first is inevitable. :(
I'm waiting for Adywan's Revisited HD-versions at this point. I've spent enough on Lucasarts halfassed releases.

In the 3D version they will digitally edit out Han's trusty DL-44 and replace it with this which he will then shoot Greedo 15 times in the face right at YOU. After Greedo shoots at him 15 times first of course.

I think the Laserdisc version is the only digital version of the original films as they appeared in the theater. If you ever come across some at a garage sale or something they are worth quite a bit.
