Gilozard: Some GOG games have been pulled from people's shelves for legal reasons.
avatar
Grargar: Not a single GOG game has been permanently pulled from a shelf. What has been pulled for legal reasons are bonus materials and a Mac version of Imperial Glory that GOG wasn't allowed to sell.
Grargar, Is there any listing to find what bonus material of the games that was deleted from GoG?

paladin181: I know some of you have, but I was wondering, who else here has downloaded all their games on GoG and either backed them up to an external drive or to DVDs?

I'm curious because the recent trouble with GoG's database have made me pretty paranoid that some of my games may go away and never return (not likely, but still). Who else has backed them up and how are you storing them?
avatar
drealmer7: Every time I buy a game I DL it and put it on a backup drive. I even have old installers.
I find it interesting that people still put stuff on DVDs, those things are not reliable. Many many many disks over the years suddenly have 0kb content on them. Scary, really. I recmomend secondary HDs that you use for storage only.
and hard drives can develop bad sectors and will fail as well
there is no real secure way other then making back ups of back ups and backing that up too
avatar
skeecher: I'm thinking of buying an external drive specifically for my GOG games :)

I prefer to keep them all in one place than have them scattered about on discs.
its a lot easier for certain yes
my blu rays are justa back up just in case of ctastrophic head crash or bad sectors ahoy

Good idea snowkatt. I was thinking getting two 3-4 terrybyte drives for my gog games. However now I think just to be safe, I'll have a 3rd backup on BluRays/DVDs. Thanks!

external
my hp 800 G1 doesnt have room for internal drives bar 2
( a full feight and an ssd )
I only manage to back up a little portion of my GOG games on my external HD.

That is because my internet provider charge about 7 dollars for every GB above my 10GB quota. The Witcher 2 need about 20GB to download everything and my download cost will be very much higher than the price of the game itself. I can buy 10-20 witcher 2 game with my download cost.

My only option is to cross over to Malaysia for unlimited internet but my download progress is not that great

ty!!
I'm on a very limited monthly bandwidth, so it's slow going. I'm only about a third of the way through, I think. At the moment I am re-creating my list of what is backed up where, since I seem to have misplaced the last one. Still, progress is progress.

djdarko: 3TB.
avatar
snowkatt: isnt that a bit small ?
Considering I've never seen an external bigger that 5TB, I wouldn't think so.

On a side note:

I realize that it's a waste of time backing them up when I spend more time downloading and managing the files than actually playing them.

9 tb in total

9TB of GOG games, or of combined external HD space?
