As the topic title implies, who does the artwork for GOG?

For example, the banners on the front page whenever a game is released on GOG?

They're just cropped versions of the boxart aren't they?

I don't think so... I could be wrong, but I highly doubt it..

I was sure I had seen that picture of a sub for Silent Service before, but when I googled the box art, I couldn't find it.

I'm sure I've seen that picture somewhere though!

Not necessarily. Secret Agent for example, never had an original box art, so they created a new one.

Take a look at the responsibilities and requirements of the web graphic designer. So it probably is one of the blues, but no idea which one, since quite a few do not frequent the forums.
And GOG is looking for more designers btw.

Thank you for getting that. :D
If gog made their own box art for a game, could the publisher use that art outside of gog?

I'm pretty sure in the vast majority of cases it's material owned and provided by a game's rightsholder (box art, concept arts, old marketing material etc), then only edited, rearranged etc. by someone at GOG. There may be cases where GOG has to create material of its own and/or use stock images, maybe they sometimes even seek out someone who has created nice fan art a while ago to get a license for using it, but I'm pretty sure that's exceptions.

Unlikely but that's impossible to tell for sure since we have no direct insight into the legal stuff happening between GOG and the publishers/developers (at least not that I know of). My guess is, though, that if GOG actually has to obtain artworks from another party than the game's rightsholder or to create an artwork from scratch only they can use it unless another arrangement is made.

And for the fact that he is dead for almost 20 years.

Btw. I always found it funny that Independence War Deluxe had a banner containing images of the sequel.

Which further confirms the notion that normally GOG tries to cope with whatever the developer/publisher provides them with.

I'm sure that's just tinyE's way to say that GOG is using some heavenly artworks.
