I wanna buy one of the Worms games, but I can only afford one and can't decide which to get. Of the ones on GOG, I only played the first one, but it was a long time ago and can't remember much about it.

So tell me which one I should buy and why, and the most convincing person gets his name put in the draw twice . If you never played any of them - just post saying you're in. If you're not in, say "Monkeys".

Prize: Dynamite Headdy (GG/DRM-Free)

I've never played any of them either. I don't have anything to give away but if someone offers me a good suggestion I promise the forum that as I prize too all of you that I will refrain from making shitty obnoxious posts for five minutes.

Now that I think about it, if I end up snagging one AND get my shit connection figured out, maybe Licurg and I can have some practice multiplayer against each other. That way both of us know we aren't going up against someone who actually knows how to play the damn thing. :D

With my shitty internet ? I'd rather not :/
Thanks for the giveaway!
Not in.The only worms on GOG i played was under siege and hated.Felt the controls were a pain, the whole 3d itself. My opinion buy worms 2 is as close you get to Armageddon.

Fair enough but I still want to know about the series just as much as you. Everyone one I know tells me to play these things and this sale gives me a chance to FINALLY check one or two of them out.

BTW sorry to jump on your giveaway but I really am curious about these. Actually there are several I'm curious about but I'll derail someone else's thread for those.

Yeah, I wish we had Armageddon :/ Is Under Siege really that bad ? I watched some videos on youtube, and it didn't look that bad .

They're pretty much all the same so you might as well save up and buy the latest one from Steam, which seems to be Revolution even though Reloaded is more expensive for some reason, not sure what that's all about

If you're limiting yourself to GOG I'd go for Forts as its a bit different to play until later versions of the standard game turn up

I don't use Steam, hence why I asked about GOG .

In that case either start with the first one and obsessively get each in turn as they turn up / go on sale or, as I say, get forts because its different

I've not played Forts but I did have Worms 3D on Xbox and found that Worms in 3D was fine to play, even with a controller, they MIGHT have cocked Forts up still though I suppose...

Some people like it some dont (myself). Its about preferences.
This case a demo would solve the issue.

I usually don't put much faith in demos, as most of them are either too short, or not representative for the game .
I just asked this in another thread but here goes, which Worms has the best SP? I was always under the impression that none of them had any SP beyond some luke warm skirmishes. Giving a pass on the Cultures games because of my investigations so it frees me up so more cash for these.
Not in, but I would say Worms 2.

The first generation Worms games (the pixelated ones) are imo quite outdated. The projectiles flight path seems somewhat weird, they fly very fast, and homing missiles can change direction too suddenly, with almost no curve. Damage gain also seems a little random, and some of the weapons are overpowered, like the Air Strike.

I also don't like the 3D worms, mainly because hitting enemies is much more difficult, as is moving about because obstacles tend to block the view sometimes (meaning, the camera is a little bit bad)

But with the cartoony style 2D Worms, everything is perfect. Everything looks nice. It's easy to move inland and whether or not projectiles hit enemies, is only up to you and not whether or not the camera is blocking your view, or you couldn't predict how certain projectiles would behave. Worms 2 also has the best customization options in the whole series - be it maps you want to customize or weapons. Bazookas doing too little damage and a hole not big enough? Boost that fucker to do 200 damage and a hole the size of a quarter of a map. Cluster bombs not dropping enough clusters upon explosions? Five's too little a number, let's make that 25.

I've played almost every Worms game ever, but I've spent by far the most time playing the cartoony 2D Worms games (for example Worms 2, Armageddon, Worms World Party and Worms Reloaded) because they're simply the most fun and everything's just perfect. And given the fact that I've put 666 hours in Worms Reloaded, speaks for itself.

Again, I would say Worms 2. No Worms game has ever had a campaign that's actually great and long: it's always been mostly just a tutorial in disguise, so that you're better equipped when it's time to hit MP. But if you enjoy battling against bots, then Worms 2 is the best choice in this field too, again because of the customization options. Worms 2 lets you battle against more teams simultaneously than the other ones, plus I think Worms 2 was the first game in the series where you could decide the number of worms in any team (say, you wanna give yourself two worms and four worms for the other teams - that's totally doable). The AI difficulty is adjustable (just don't expect them to use Ninja Rope), so the challenge should always be on the same level as your current skills.

I have only played the first. I would like to be in for the next poster with rep above 50 who wants Dynamite Headdy. I'm not really a platformer fan :).
Worms Reloaded was like shit, compared to Worms 2 and Armageddon. The latter even runs today in full HD resolutions. It’s the best game of the series. Worms Reloaded just makes it more accessible for casual gamers, but it lost fun.

As soon as Worms Armageddon is available on GOG I’ll buy it, because it still needs some patching and configuring getting it to work on Windows 7. I hope GOG will do the work for me. :)
