Alright...

I have the choice of 2 video cards for the computer I am building-

The Sapphire HD 5450, either 1GB or 512MB... or the EVGA GeForce GT 210, and again, 1GB or 512MB.

So, which one should I get? I am not looking for a high end bla bla bla, both of those would be fine for the purpose I want them for, but which one is better? The Sapphire is about $10 cheaper... but I thought that the drivers and stuff had bugs, and crashed all the time.

Also I want to be able to play the Oddworld series, but I think there were problems with ATI cards...

So anyway, what do YOU think?

EDIT: And maybe UDK on lowest settings? I had a GeForce 9500 GT which ran it fine... so they should be able to...

Here's a good cheap card, and it runs a bit better than the two you listed:

good video card for 45 bucks
I've personally had better luck with ATI cards than nVidia ones lately.

But, one thing to keep in mind is that some developers don't bother to test their games with whichever they aren't optimizing for which can lead to rather bizarre results at times.
Check out this tomshardware article I just dug up. Compares the cards.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-5450,2549.html

Skimming through the article, it looks like the 5450 beats the GT210 by about 25-50% in each game tested. However, both are significantly slower than the 9500GT.

Personally, I've never had any problems with ATI drivers or hardware. Can't say the same about Nvidia. That's me. Other people will tell you the exact opposite.

edit - fixed the link

Yeah, I vote for the ATI too, they have been better to me then Nvidia. Plus I don't know what the power requirments of those two cards are, but, I know my ATI, a 5670, does not suck up the juice at all. So if you have a lower wattage computer that may be good to know. (however I don't know if the same is true of those two cards your comparing)
I still say get the 6450 I linked to above. The 6450 is the same as the 5450 but is better optimized and designed/etc.

GameRager is right: get the 6450 over the 5450. I have a 5450. It is not an impressive card. It stays in its slot rather than my parts box only because it's half-height and quiet, and its host is running as a server.

But if you can raise that to a 6570, you will be getting three times the card for only a little more money.

On the nVidia side, the GT 210 is so puny and obsolete that they should be giving it away, not asking you to pay them actual money for it. Even if you want a low-end card, get a GT 420 or 430, or stretch for a GT 440 if you can manage it.

Get a card with GDDR5 instead of DDR3 if you possibly can. GDDR5 is more than twice as fast.

I checked newegg and a few other sites and the cheapest DDR5 cards go for around 90 and up.....out of OP's budget possibly.
as far as i know both card, HD 5450 and GT 210 are slower compared to your 9500GT.
I'm not really sure if those card can play Oddworld Stranger Wrath with satisfying frame rate, let alone the incoming HD update for the game which will be released for PC soon. Take a look at GameRager's link for more best for bucks choice.

Worse, the OP's in New Zealand. NZ prices are just extortionate. Looking at Ascent's Web site, I see the least expensive 5450 for NZ$62.16, the least expensive 6450 for NZ$79.97, and the least expensive non-obsolete nVidia card (GT 520) for NZ$79.97. (Nothing with GDDR5 for less than NZ$144.61.)

OP, if you can stretch another NZ$20 for a 6450 or GT 520, it would be a big improvement.

Or move to a less restrictive part of the world. :\

Ha ha, in another 10 years or so maybe... :-p.

@GameRager -

Yeah, trouble is, postage will be expensive... and probably make it more expensive than the card itself...

cjrgreen: snip
Yeah, this isn't for my gaming rig so I don't want to spend too much...

Then get the 5450...but if you can save up for the 6450 as IMO it would be worth it.

Also some here in either the gaming deals thread or classifieds thread talked about a method to ship internationally where it doesn't cost as much....I forget the term/method but ask around in there an they might be able to help you with that psrt of it.

Some of the forwarding companies are remarkably cheap ways to get hardware I know I worked out once if I could have waited for the double shipping I could have saved a couple of hundred using a mail forwarder and newegg...
Here is an interesting comparison for gpu for the money
