I never played POD, but Carmageddon is really fun! So since you already own POD, I'd suggest to go with Carmageddon and have a blast! :-)

Carmageddon or Flatout.
Carma is the more classic all around better game but Flatout has high jump, long jump, bowling, and darts. A true mix of racing and highly sophisticated track and field. Thumbs up!

Bear in mind, that racing in Carmageddon is not about finishing first. I don't think it even keeps track of your position, since the AI can teleport all over the map to get closer to your general vicinity.

If you're not hellbent on 3D, I recommend the original Death Rally. It's top-down perspective racing with weapons, and tons of fun. It can be downloaded free of charge and completely legally . Just FYI it does, kind of. I got REALLY bored once and actually finished a race by hitting all the checkpoints in the right order the right number of times. Most boring experience of my life.

Yeah, Carmageddon is a racing game where the racing is by far the worst thing about it. Luckily everything else is unrivalled brilliance.

pod is pure racing set in futuristic post-apocalyptic world. No power up, no weapon, just about who finish first. It's more like tech demo back in the MMX era, my cousin got it for free with the purchase of MMX powered computer. However it's damn good at that simplistic gameplay. With pretty advanced physics like inertia and weight. Each car does feel different. Lots of free downloadable cars and tracks as well, though there are few quirks to achieve that.

And nicode is still active helping and maintaining the community on Pod subforum. Don't forget to heck out his stuff as well.

I looked through more racing games, and the interstate and megarace games caught my eye. Anybody here recommend them?
