Ok sure, that's not a 'back to basic' example, but it would be a newer game taking hints from older ones ;)
...Dwarf Fortress is a newer game. It just happens to be in alpha.

I think a Deus Ex de-make could be really interesting (done in a way like Fallout / Wasteland 2 / Project Eternity - top down view, and 2.5D / 3D graphics).

Cyberpunk isometric RPG - that would be so great.

Fallout 3 is the obvious one (not that it's terrible as is), but it looks like Wasteland 2 will fulfill that need.
