My girlfriend and I have just bought a house in the centre of Lübeck and I'm finally getting my very own nerd basement! Until now I had a poxy little room next to the kitchen in our flat for all my nerd stuff, but now I can be a true nerd and have the whole lot in my own hobby room in the basement - a room three times the size of what I have now!

Just wondering how everyone else had set up their nerd domains?
Just a small room since we are living in a flat but my shit is pretty much everywhere in the house.

I envy you!
I have a desk in the cormer of our bedroom.
It's about all I get as there is me, my wife & 4 kids in a 2 bedroom house.
:(
I live alone, so I'd say my domain is my 48m^2 two-room apartment.

Fair enough: I know most ordinary houses in the UK don't actually have basements or cellars for whatever reason, at least I've never seen one with a cellar.

Technically speaking, our house is the German equivalent of a three-bedroom house ("four room" in Germany, as you count by the number of rooms not including cellar, kitchen and bathroom, so it's usually one room more to account for the living room).

It has a cellar, but we don't have a loft. I think it did once, but it has since been converted into a fourth bedroom (apparently the previous owner was, like me, a self-employed, homeworking nerd).

But yeah, I started out with the desk in the corner of the bedroom too :)
The Woman Of My Dreams (tm) and me share a one-room flat. This flat _is_ our nerd domain. :)

Yea pretty much this, except for the kids. And the house.
Right now, I just have a single room plus a bath at a hostel, but I'll be getting an apartment. I've seen photos of some of the ones around here and they're nicer than anything my friends back in the US can afford. I could end up with something pretty basic, but some of those apartments are pretty sick.
My ex and I had a small apartment, so my computer was in the living room. I use headphones all the time anyway, so it was no big deal.

Now I single and living abroad with a host family, with my own room to completely nerd out in.

Yah.

Cold as shit over here.
None are as nerdy as I'd like, but:

- two-car garage, with plans to turn into a four-car. The wife and I have this on completely different places on our respective lists of priorities. Myself, I'd do this before tackling anything on the house, since it would allow for storage while the house gets a facelift.

- my office. Really, just storage and paperwork for typical office crap. My big custom desk is overkill nowadays since I've gone from desktop to laptop. We're thinking about cajiggering it into being able to be quickly converted into a bedroom. We both have aging parents and I can imagine getting a live-in somewhere down the road. With the rest of the bedrooms on the second floor, this is about the only logical choice for that situation. In that case, I'll have to move my office upstairs.

- basement. About 50% storage for personal crap and the other 50% is for my work stuff. Lots of storage for parts and shipping supplies, plus three workbenches, compressor, 12-ton press, etc. I'd love to get a mini-mill, maker-bot, and a metal bandsaw but those are fairly large investments for someone who is not a machinist and / or CAD guy by training.

I once had a full floor. Well, two rooms , 20 and 14 sqm.... The former for my books and hobbies, the later for my computers

Then came the 3rd kid. And I had to allocate him the 20 sqm room

Then the two girls started to grow and I had to share the 14 sqm and the computers. ( that is they somehow reallocated the ownership of my linux computer and of my older laptop) Now the boy (3 yrs old ) start to invade (what's left of ) my domain as well.
