It's just a nice and polite forum, despite of the amount of americans who use it.

And who think there would be less killings in schools if all chrildren had a gun, and who think that arabs should all die because they are stuck with a false god and a more primitive religion than christianity, and who think that if you're poor you deserve to starve because if you had tried enough then you'd be a billionaire by now, and who think that pluto is not a planet, and that we have landed on the moon, and that the wtc has been taken down by foreigners and that jfk has been asassinated by earthlings and that ghosts don't exist and that pedophiles should he sentenced to death and that obama is actually american and that their 5th amendment is more sacred than their 4th amendment and that agnosticism is not a psychopathology and that women should be allowed to pilot airliners and that the pc gaming market isn't entrely controlled by israel.

I think that if all goes rather well, it's mostly because, despite of our differences, we all agree that steam users have a bit of a backward mentality.
What do you want people here to "agitate" about? I think most subjects have been covered and agitated over on this forum already.

But if you dont think there is enough agitation here, either start some yourself and see who wants to play, or go visit gamefaqs or the WoW forums, maybe you will ind them more to your liking.

All I get from your post is that we are not entertaining enough for you.

But yeah. I want me some roughness on a forum. Otherwise it's stale.
If you're looking to discuss those topics, another forum I frequent is www.theologyweb.com. It has a broad range of topics with loose moderation.

Tarm: Safe and easy going is also lack of diversity. Boring.
avatar
Cormoran: I disagree, you can have a forum of nice people and still have diversity. I don't think people have to be arseholes to have a lively forum.
If you want to discuss the hard questions you need arseholes. Because generally everyone else is too cowardly to start them.

I mean that it's too nice. It wasn't that kind of nice before. It's kinda you have to be nice for niceties sake.

Soyeong: I think the problem here is different definitions of what it means to have a great forum. If you want a forum where there is more conflict, then there are plenty of other forums out there that can fill that role, but I like the community here.
I don't want more conflict. What I want is more discussion. Every time someone that comes in here that is new and have a view point that isn't generally accepted by the majority here he or she gets shut down. That's not the hallmark of a great "Forum Society".

mistermumbles: Oh, there are definitely some disagreements here and there, but why would anyone specifically look out for fights between people? That makes little sense to me. I know I throw out some asshattish opinions of my own out every now and again - and I most certainly don't give a shit what people may think about those - but that's as far as I go since I'm not willing to go into virtual mud-slinging as arguing on the internet is as pointless as ever. For the most part though I do try to treat others with respect. I don't see anything wrong in that.
That is a viewpoint I agree on. I thoroughly agree on peoples right to throw out offensive stuff. I just don't like them being shut down right away because of a forums "standard". More interesting to take the discussion instead.

P1na: If by boring you mean polite, and by "dare to stick their neck out" you mean the latests scammers, I think you have a problem.
avatar
Tarm: What?
I just mean, I'm new. And I haven't made any compromises here, mind you. Yet I haven't had a problem.

The "morals of the GOG 'community'", as you put it, appear to be for instance "piracy is bad". Yet I've admitted to being a pirate several times, and nobody has "stick it to me that say I am out of line". You say this is boring, serious and polite, yet I've derailed several threads into off-topic nonsense with the only reactions being either having 2 parallel conversations or a mild complaint from the OP, which I only ignore if I feel the thread is stupid. Again no sticking.

I would like to have examples of these people who "dare to stick their neck out" and then get sticked by the "old ones". Because the only sticks I've seen around here are to either scammers or people who prepotently try to push their ideas into other's throats. And if those are the agitators you miss, then as I said you have a problem.

Yeah your last statement is right. But I am certain that doesn't be just me.
This forum is starting to be like a Hello Kitty forum. Where the hell are the angry kids and grown ups that like playing these old games? We need more cranky people here to make the forum entertaining!
Please tell me I wasn't the only one who read the thread title as: "Where's the alligators?" I thought the first few posts were a bit strange...

I mean people with an attitude that don't give a fuck if they offend you with their opinions.
We have some here but the wast majority are people that avoid and do not take a fight.
Most by far here seem to think that they have to be nice so not to anger the GOG moral police mob of being nice and polite.

I for one find a civil exchange of opinions entertaining enough without people jumping at other's throats. And I've seen several of such exchanges on the short time I've been here.

And I consider myself a grown up who likes to play these old games, should I act any different?

Why? It's the best quote I've heard since the opening lines of the French policeman in Broken Sword.

I do too enjoy civil discussions but there is no real heat here any more! Generally speaking that is.

Well if you're an grown up playing these games you should only behave cranky if you are, well cranky. Otherwise behave as you like.
But I find it a real shame this forum is pushing away cranky members because they're "Not nice". I think many here have to let go of the group hugging and nice warm feeling they get from telling others and being told that they're such nice fellows because they're members of such a nice forum and community.

Honestly all that make me wanna puke.

Personally, I get cranky in real life. Real cranky, even. Specially your questions, "where are the agitators?" and "where are the angry kids?" come up often, when I see at the situation back home. Or even worse, down in Spain. A country with at least 60% youth unemployment should be burning buy now, and yet there's not only no movement (they are presumably watching football and playing CoD), but they even chose a guy like that to lead. That gets me cranky. I play old games and visit the forums to take a break.
What a stupid post. :-)

(how's that?)

But really, if this forum turned into people with tantrums all the time, that would be really lame.

I'm glad that people here are generally decent to each other. Common decency seem to be a rarity these days. I'm sure you can find many other sites to get your fix of woe-is-me-you're-stupid-your-game-is-stupid-I-hate-you posts.
The problem is, I always log in with the intention to rant violently, but I'm greeted with stuff like "today we release Space Colony HD" or "today we have a discount on Interplay games" and I go all "awww" and I forget to be angry.
