A while ago I started writing about my journey through a game an a blog. I write it kind of like a novel and do it to get better immersion and improve my writing. To get some readers would be a huge perk.
The blog so far has gotten only one view and I'm not completely satisfied with that to say the least. I think it's because it's in a general blog site and not too many people are interested in this kind of writing, especially not about games.
So I'm wondering if you happen to know of a better place for my blog (or perhaps a forum) where I could write this kind of stuff? Is it ok to write about it on GOG and would it be a good idea to put it here to get readers?
This question / problem has been solved by katsaysmehimage
You have to have some goals in mind. Why do you want complete strangers to be interested in your writing/opinions? With 1 view on a blog site you don't seem to be sharing it with friends, yet you're still looking for attention from someone. If you don't have a reason you want to be seen and a reason you should be seen, then you're not going to find much success in this field.

I hope you didn't ask this after just writing the one article and becoming deterred. You should have 10-20, and they should all be completed.
Is it a GOG game ? If so, then I don't think it would be a problem, but if not... Some people might take offense. I say go for it, but you should wait for other opinions.
MaximimBunny:
Well, attention is always nice. I would like to get some criticism on my writing too. And I think maybe some people might enjoy reading my journeys through some game they played before, but that's really up to them to decide. Hard though when no one is reading.
No, most of my friends wouldn't have interest reading of a blog like that. Another person on a forum (general forum, not game forum) wrote about his playing experience a little and it seemed to get some attention and people liked reading about it. I don't want to write on that forum though.
I've written 7 posts so far on my blog. Maybe I should have more patience?

Licurg:
Yes it is. I'll be thinking it over and maybe wait for some more replies about that subject.

Hmm, so your target audience is people who've played the game before and want someone else's take on things? That's different. :P

You'll need to convince people that you're insightful then. And there's no such thing as making a post and having people randomly following you. You have to make traffic come and keep the ones that come by with your quality. Are there any bloggers or reviewers that you follow?

If it is a GoG game then the game's subforum would be an excellent place for something like this (though I'm not sure if this is against "forum etiquette" or even terms of service - can't see why though). If you're using it to promote a third party site then maybe but if you're thinking of just doing sort of a novelette of an After Action Report that sounds great. I know on a site I used to frequent there would be the occasional write up of progress through a game (usually it was a story-light strategy game - something where the person would describe the events taking place with their own storyline added in, as there's really not much point in just summarizing the story of say an RPG).
No wonder nobody reads your blog when you can't even be bothered to provide a link to it.
As noted, if it's a GOG game, go ahead and post in that game's subforum. I think most games have their own community forums as well, so if it's a non-GOG game, then check out hat game's forums and maybe post there. You really want to get it out to people that are interested in reading it, so it would seem to me that your best bet is to go to the specific game's forums.

I know we did a somewhat similar thing in the Icewind Dale forum and it was both fun and amusing.

Well, that's the ones I think would be interested in reading the blog. I'm not sure it's too interesting reading about my journey through a game if you haven't played it. Even if I make up a little dialogue between the characters etc.
It's more like I'm kind of writing a novel-ish thing about my journey.

Well, to convince people about it they sure need to read it first. That's my main problem. No I don't have any such things. I haven't really had any interest in blogs until recently.

Ixamyakxim:
Yes my blog is kinda like a novel on an AAR which I'm writing as I progress through the game.

PetrusOctavianus:
I'm not sure if it's against the rules to do personal advertising and therefor did not post a link. Besides even if it was ok this thread isn't for advertising but to get some tips on where I could easier get the interest of people.

Coelocanth:
I'll probably write in the sub-forum on GOG then. I'll check out the other site you mentioned too.
I was just thinking earlier of doing something similar as a writing excercise.

All I can suggest to you regarding whatever blog platform you use, is to use all of the tools at your disposal - labels for one thing are incredibly useful for getting hits, but also engaging the reader beyond just your writing can help (I often find that the posts on my sketch-blog with the highest hits are not filled with the art, but discuss a related subject).

As to doing it on GOG, I agree with Licurg!

I think the word you're looking for is 'advertising'. From the way you're writing here, it seems that you just put the stuff on your blog and then expect readers to just randomly appear out of thin air. That's not the way it works. You can have all the patience in the world, without telling people about it you'll be hard pressed to find followers.

If you don't tell anyone, you can write 200 more posts and still have no readers...
Hm, I think I would recommend tumblr for something like that. Follow a few people that post game-related stuff and tag your posts with the name of the game and you will get people to read your posts and reblog them. That will get you more followers/readers and so on.

It's probably the easiest way to get your writing out there. But that's just my two cents.
Sachys:
All I can say is that it makes the play time take 5-10 times longer. If not even more (depending on how much you write). But if you have the time and energy it's really fun. Gives a lot of immersion in the game. I can say that. I did it in Morrowind earlier a bit but decided to change game since I played it so much. I must admit Morrowind was more fun to write about than MM6 which I'm currently playing. I'm thinking of changing game again to a more fun game to write about and just play MM6 as it is.

Randalator:
I'm not really prepared to go to such length in getting hits. I could instead do it ex on the GOG forums since I don't intend do do this for any profit or so. I think putting it here can cause some more discussion around the game too.

Anyways, thanks for all the replies! I'll be putting my story up here (as soon as I can pick a game that's good to write about).

EDIT:
katsaysmeh:
I thought tumblr was just for posting meme's and pictures of cats. I feel kinda internet-retarded lately...:/ Will check it out though.

Haha, well, there are a lot of people who just reblog internet memes, but it has a great fanart and fanfiction scene, some writers, some artists in general... it's something like a mix between facebook, a normal blogging site and deviantart.

The main idea of tumblr was actually getting your art/music/writing out there, but the average person just uses it to reblog stuff they like.
Also it has lots of sub-communities with blogs that follow each other, like a bunch of bloggers who describe their playthrough of the newer Pokemon games in the first person, kinda like what you're doing.

That's the best reply so far. I'll be sure to check it out some more. Thanks for the advice.
