As an Oblivion fan, have a look at the Witcher, Arx Fatalis and Gothic games.
As a 'stealth' fan you have to look at the Thief series (you can make them look more modern (kind of) with mods) if you don't know them.
And welcome to GoG. If you find you can enjoy gameplay MORE than graphics, there is a treasure trove of great games here, some of the best ever made.
I would compile a list of all the ones you think you might like, then use a site like metacritic to read reviews on them and see if that helps :)

Welcome! And this is absolutely the right place to post this.
P1na already mentioned it, but I'll throw in an extra vote for it - Deus Ex. An outstanding first-person RPG in a near-future dystopian setting.
My favorite thing about it is the freedom to play however you want. You can sneak through the game, or shoot your way through it. You can play the entire game without killing anyone. You can also play the entire game without drawing a weapon (but still killing a lot of people.) I'm currently playing it for something like the 60th time, and I'm still finding new ways to play.
If you are into mods, Deus Ex has a ton of them. Very good ones. Including graphics mods, in case you find the standard graphics a bit too dated.
If you like Hitman, you might like Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.
Thief might be a good one as well.

Back on topic - This is a bit of a stretch... It is not an RPG, but if you like first-person open worlds like Oblivion, maybe look into the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.

I remember the one time I was called in to the principal's office. The reason: He wanted to know why I didn't sign up for the school play. I still think my mom had something to do with it, as she was a teacher there at the time. The play was horrid: had to wear blue jeans with a white t-shirt while performing unimaginative dance moves in unison under flashing black lights....the horror...

Hmm. I would recommend Fallout (I first got Fallout 2), but since thats no longer here, unless you buy a original copy or off Steam, I would go for Deus Ex and definetly System Shock 2, which is similar to Deus Ex, except set in space. By yourself. With horror.

But ...
It really feels incomplete without fallout :(
(Not that you can do anything about it ofc)

I would recommend starting with something like Baldur's Gate. Look around online for some basic advice on how to make your first character, because those unfamiliar with the rule system might create something unplayable. The game is not very hard to get into, as long as you don't cripple yourself right from the get-go.
The Witcher is also good, and probably a tad bit easier to get into, due to it having a proper tutorial. Highly recommended.
Ultima 7 has an amazing setting and a lot of very well written dialogue. It's also a game where it's unlikely that you'll shoot yourself in the foot in terms of when leveling up & desinging your character. On the other hand, it also suffers a bit from some outdated design choices, and it might be a bit frustrating to play unless you are used to games that requires you to pay attention to what everyone says (there are no arrows pointing you the right way, and the game world is relatively big)
Legend of Grimrock is another modern game. I found it quite easy to get into, and it was really good, all the way through.
Nox is an ARPG with well paced combat. It's quite linear, so it's unlikely that you'll get lost.

What's it with you and Licurg, anyway?
But back to game recommendations. I think it would help if OP could specify whether he prefers 2D or 3D games, and whether he's looking mostly for somewhat recent, or older games. Since he's young he might find the graphics and gameplay of some of the older titles hard to get into, if he grew up with fairly recent 3D games. I still think The Witcher 2 is a save bet, since it combines many genres ( even has a few stealth sections ) and is overall a highly polished and well made game.
Someone already mentioned the Two Worlds games, I think? Those might be relevant to his interests, as well.
