May as well add my view here.
i think many of us are just happy to know Ians ok, and as long as we know that we can live with him not being on here if he feels its best not to be.
so Ian take good care mate, stay safe and know you are missed. Anything any of us can do just know you need to only ask.

Bavarian: *joins the "bring back Orcish" campaign*
Ah yes orcs all ways useful and make great minions, perfect for any army. Need something to be raided and burned to the ground, their good at that. good at getting more sneaky work that needs a bit of strength done. even leading armies and talking with other nations, after you look around for just the right orc for the job. Of course, when you are going to fight a battle and plan on taking enemy prisoners. remember, all ways ask the orc tribe, nation or what ever kind of orcs you are hiring if they eat their enemies. or else you might end up with out any prisoners. Like that one time.

*flash back*

Ah yes we won the battle, now where are the prisoners!

kobold captain death: Yip yip. Milord, our forces are busy the remainer of the living enemy forces. Yip yip.

Me: Dam it. is anyone of them still left alive?

kobold captain death: just the one boiling alive in the po.. never mind sir, he just died and they are enjoying a feast.

Me: Dam it. next time i need to make sure i don't bring along a whole freaking army that is fine with eating their foes. Well time to skip to looting the battle grounds then. Now where is that kart?

Witch: Hey boss i'm here with the cart! how is the battle going?

Me: the freaking battle is over, what took you so long to get here with the cart?

Witch: oh well i was working by when a fire dragon came out of the blue chasing some dwarves and halfings making his way down to this human town, when i was hit by one of the fire balls. i was set on fire and then i jumped into the water. then this elven lady came along and summoned up some water horsies that wash me down the river. I lost the cart, so i then had to find some wood to chop and wouldn't you know it boss? the first tree i tried chopping down came to life and tried attacking me!

Me: I sometimes wonder why i ask and then what happen?

Witch: i set it on fire of course. then the wood was two burn to make a cart out of. After searching for a bit i finally found the wood for a brand new cart and came here. After running away from some elves that were chasing me.. Don't worry boss i lost them after they ran into a cave troll.

Me: i think i heard enough. just get that cart over here and lets loot the battle grounds.

*End flash back.*

Ahhh yes good times good times.

Kobold captain Death: um sir i think they were talking about orcishgamer, not orcs in general.

Me: Oh right orcish gamer. a fair and reasonable person, also very orcish and green.

OFFICIAL ANSWER:

As previously reported, Ian's health took a dive for the worse. Whilst he is still ill, he intends to return to the forum - his appearence tonight the first of an ongoing Ianfest of shorter, but perhaps sweeter appearences.

I will not divulge the details of Ian's health - nor respond to any comments. This is simply me passing a broad message I've been asked to pass on...

Ian feels somewhat overwhelmed by the PMs he has recieved, this thread and the general response to his absence. In his current state of health, he has decided to recline for the evening and will respond as best he can over the coming days / weeks etc as he feels he can to personal messages and the likes, though his health is serious enough that he may find this difficult, so please be patient and YADA!

Thanks for the update/info. I won't bother Ian by PMing him, but if you happen to look into this thread, Ian, I wish you all the best.
Nice to hear some news, thanks Mr. Speakchimp.

All the best Ian!

Thanks for the great news, Sachys! It's really good to know that he's somewhere still watching over GOG's forum. He is a good man and I really wish he can recover. Best wishes for you, Ian, wherever you are! ^_^
