Fenixp: I'm fairly sure I've seen Orcish saying that this applied to him as well
avatar
Neobr10: It applies to Gameon as well.
That was slightly different. He was always a bit jumpy, and unfortunately came head to head with TET in a fairly aggressive argument, and made a quite showy decision to publicly leave. It's not the same.

wpegg: SimonG was a very friendly and active member of the community for a long time, and I'd prefer to focus on that period. Hard exits are not pleasant, but I still hold a lot of respect for SimonG as well as Orcish,
SimonG was a very friendly guy. I think he got pissed at the amount of aggression coming from DRM-free enthusiasts whenever he expressed his opinion. If i recall correctly he also got pretty pissed at GOG itself because of those cease and desist letters sent by CDProjekt Red in Germany.

Sachys: I have said quite a few times in several popular threads:

I had an email from Ian.
Aside from general real life issues and some health problems getting in the way of his time here, he also had some tech issues with his computer and internet connection.
He has been online in the last couple of months (or at least his steam account has been used in that time). If anyone has a specific message to pass, I'll gladly do so when I email him at the end of the month.
Yes, say him to come back here, if he can/want!

I was right on his side with all that though, and it was amicably resolved. I joined him in the GOG boycott, and didn't buy a game until CDPR changed their policy. I believe that SimonG actually did a giveaway once they did change in order to celebrate. So I don't think that was anything to do with it. I think your first point was the reason he left.

Crosmando: Ian is in Shady Sands, first building to the right. You can recruit him by paying 100 caps, or convince him to join for free, through a Speech check.
Oh no, not this guy again! He never learns that it's not a good idea to end the turn next to a deathclaw...

Yes, i remember that episode. An user posted something like "i hope you die" and he took it as a death threat. To be honest i think Gameon's decision to leave was right. TET's post wasn't very professional at that occasion, if i recall correctly he implied that Gameon needed psychological treatment or something like that. That was very unprofessional, in my opinion. Not to mention that Gameon was the one who got insulted by another member in the first place. If i were the one who got insulted and then the moderation jumped on me instead of the aggressor like TET did i would also leave the community.

Well, lets not go there again, only to say that Licurg threatens to kill just about everyone here, and TET was just saying that. Still, TET has apologised since.

wpegg: But, that was in his last phase. When a person is becoming dissallusioned with a community, it's not uncommon to start seeing other members as being your enemy, as they're (in their mind) the ones who are bringing everything down.

Things started going downhill with SimonG right around the time that GOG started with the shift towards indie games. He was always adamant that GOG was never about DRM-free, but rather about old games, and when he was challenged on this view, he essentially started insulting and belittling everyone here as unrealistic DRM-free hipsters. That's about the point that I lost my patience with him.

I do miss Orcish though. He was one of the best here.

The man enlightened me on the usefulness of having a gun in his backpocket while taking a walk in the woods ( .... provided you live in a bear populated area ofc).

Should I ever come around to develop a really useful piece of software I will call it "Whiskey" to honor him.
I do Miss Ian get Well Soon Ian! Make sure your PC is in working order WE all Have Health Problems of some sort.
*joins the "bring back Orcish" campaign*

I don't recall ever getting into coversation or discussion with him directly. But he was one of those users, whenever I saw him posting in a thread, I naturally knew it would be a post worth reading. And besides that, I never disagreed with him. Hope he returns someday.
