Crassmaster: I've never used D2D, so someone else can answer that part. As for GG, there isn't a tied in system. Some of the games on the service do use 3rd party DRM, but if you do a little research you'll know before buying. You have an account online that your games are available from, you download a downloader/installer and you use that. There is a pretty easy way to keep a back up of the full install setup without it being tied to GG from that point on, too.

melchiz: Ah, thanks! It sounds like a solid system.

You're welcome. I have probably approaching 30 games from them (they have weekend sales that I've taken advantage of...I think I bought maybe 2 of those 30 at full price). My only issue with them is the download speeds can get a little sluggish at times.

Ah, yes, well hopefully GG resolves that. I always max out my downstream bandwidth when using Impulse (sometimes on GOG as well), which makes it the best value for speed. Steam is somewhat unreliable when it comes to download speed, especially during peak hours or new release days.

bansama: Too bad most non-DD available games (in my region) are published by companies who don't like Amazon shipping the product overseas. Otherwise, I'd use Amazon.

You might want to have a look at http://www.gameswarehouse.com.au. They say they ship internationally but it seems to be by special arrangement. The price for the average new release PC game would be about 7000 yen (no ides if this is good or bad). If the price is okay it might be a viable alternative

I think CDWOW ship internationally.
Some games can be rather inexpensive, but that's not always the case. The only downfall, really, is the long shipping times. Which, as with the price, can also be hit and miss.
Mainly I'm buying games from local polish publishers; Cenega, CD Projekt (who btw started whole GOG.com thingie). From internet shops I'm counting on digital distribution because of shipping cost to Poland and currency rates (1euro/1$/1 pound is equal 4,20/2,90/5 PLN :-\) and I'm always waiting for some promos - gog.com of course, Steam, very rarely Impulse.

I didn't know about CD WOW, thanks for that. And hey, there's one just for Hong Kong!
www.ebay.com.sg
Also, there are a few shops in Singapore that don't really know how to price their games well. On one hand, you have shit titles going for $60. On the other hand, some gems like the Rainbow Six Collector's Ed go for as low as $20 (The R6 collectors ed is $40)

You're welcome. But please be warned, sometimes you can wait what feels like an eternity for the game to ship. No exaggeration.
But they're cheap, and I don't know if it's the case in HK, but the shipping is free.
GOG, Gamersgate, Impulse, Play.com and Zaavi. Some local second hand store too.
Basically, since I joined GOG, as soon as the beta went public (unfortunately I didn't know about the site in time to join the closed beta), I haven't bought any new games. Or rather, I haven't bought any new commercial games. I've bought a few indie titles. I think the PC games industry has lost touch with its audience, or large segments of it, at least. When I was a teenager, they made games for teenagers, and a few games for an older audience. Now that the first generation that grew up with computer games are all adults, they still play games, but the industry seems to cater exclusively to teenagers now.
The only digital distributor I use regularly is this one (I did buy Escape Velocity Nova from Ambrosia, and Bejeweled 2 from PopCap - thanks to Weclock handing out a 50% off code a while ago -, making them the only other DD's I've used for games), other than that I order physical copies and even buy the games in physical stores - I want my boxes and discs, thank you.

phanboy4: In order, GOG, Steam, eBay, GamersGate, and Impulse.
GOG and eBay are the most fun though.
avatar
melchiz: Out of curiosity, why is Impulse so low on that list?

Smaller catalog size and less frequent sales than the others.

Miaghstir: I did buy Escape Velocity Nova

That link crashes my Firefox for some reason.
Amazon, Target ((allowed to do perosnaly clearance items up to 90% off)) GOG, and Overstock.com
DD: GOG, Steam & Impulse. I have more Steam games. Although that's partly due to their weekend bundle indie deal and partly due to the number of episodic games in my Steam list.
Retail: Play.com, Asda, Gameplay.co.uk, Coolshop, Amazon & BlahDVD.
Also: eBay.
