nicohvc: u're righ!t. wow, days goes so fast!
djdarko: I'm curious about this HOMM III as well, of the current sale, what would you guys recommend as the first game to introduce myself to the series?
Also, was the last sale $3.99 as well? Or was it lower (for HOMM III)?
Compared to Part 3:
#1 is very simplified, but I really enjoyed it.
#2 is a mixed bag. It's got far fewer units and not as much content, but you get a much more intimate appreciation of each of their nuanced abilities and how to use them.
#4 has some good qualities, but it's probably my least favorite for a number of reasons (repeating annoying music and your heroes' easy death are my biggest gripes).
#5 is the best newer game. It's quite solid and fun. I used to say #2 was my favorite, but probably #5 is now -- just for the better look.
#6 is a good game, but not as good as 5.
Everyone usually agrees that #3 is the best. And it's a stand-alone, learn-it-as-you-go kind of game. I personally started with 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, then 5, then 6. But #3 is a great place to start. And you might not ever end.
If you like these games, grab the newer King's Bounty games.
HoMM III was cheaper at the last sale. $2.49. But I've never seen it that cheap before. Usually when it gets a discount, it's 50% off at Christmas or 75% off if you buy all of the HoMM games (which is sort of a waste IMHO -- you really only need one or two -- HoMM3 and HoMM5).
Have fun!
