as their getting a fair number of publishers and 100 games seems daft to still be in a bata

Well they need to finish whatever tweaks they're doing to the forums and so on, they have to have probably a full years sales figures to show the profitability of the model... and possibly much more besides.
No rest yet, and they'll remain in beta for a while I would think. It's not really been that long so far.

As long as the service works as intended for a majority of users and, most importantly, ME, GOG could be in alpha or even pre-alpha just as long as the games keep on coming.

The number of publishers is not an indication of how close to gold GOG is. The beta status is strictly about the state of the service and the website, which is still in the process of changing pretty regularly.

This is Web 2.0, where things can stay in beta for ever and ever and ever. Remember Gmail? It's still in beta. I doubt that GOG will be out of beta in the next 6-12 months/.

Why the site is still in beta version?
As every self-respected website, in the era of Web 2.0, we have to carry out the beta for at least a year before we can launch the site. Unless you will act briefly and send us your feedback asap, we might think of launching the site earlier.

That is (my interpretation): It'll be out of beta when they decide it's time to take it out of beta.

Beta is good for me at least if a problem occurs, I am saying this is because of beta. :P

imagine the amount of time steam had in "beta" before becoming the fully fledged store we see today..
GOG has a long way to go if it wants to match steam in that sense.
