Yeah, stupid question but I've never preordered before.

Do you get charged when you preorder or on the day the game comes out?

In this case, right now. and that's how most download services work too.

So in that case, that should be named pre-purchase, not pre-order.

My paypal balance is pretty clear on that point. Not that i disagree with you, but other digital distribution services like Steam or Gamersgate use the term pre-order too when in fact it's a pre-purchase.

It's kinda weird though that the pre-order for the witcher 2 was a real one, and this one is a pre-purchase.

I think that with the Witcher 2 they had that luxury as they were selling their own game their own way. So not forcing commitment was an option.

I don't know about purchasing with a card, but Paypal was clear it wanted my money.

And that was right definition of preorder word :) As I said earlier, in case of LoG, GOG should change this description.

Sucks then. I was going to preorder if they charged you (using CC) on the day it comes out but if they're gonna take my money as soon as I order, I can't buy it right now :(

Has anyone actually preordered with a CC (either through paypal or no) though? Was the funds taken right away?

I must say though, you guys sure are helpful. Nobody replied to me in another thread.

I pre-ordered on Steam only twice. Once for Worms Reloaded and once for Serious Sam 3: BFE (the super duper deluxe ding-a-ling-a-ding-dong version). Both instances were pretty close to the release date, so I don't remember if I was charged right away and given access to "preload" or not. As for physical, material discs, you're usually only charged when the game is being taken down off the warehouse shelf and put in a box/shipping envelope for you.

Ah well. It's probably the same with CCs. Guess I can't preorder :(

You thought about it, you should already have been charged accordingly. Amazon.com does not charge you until "ship date" for physical or download games. I thought that was the norm...

I didn't preorder yet...Wanted to get question answered first since I can't preorder now if I'll get charged right away.

Well considering this in this case it's a download the charge will probably stick, but generally with paypal the funds for preorders are charged and held for a few days before being returned until processing.
