DRM only stopped me playing a game a few times.
Steam never really gave me problems except when it was under because of workload, usually resolved in 5 minutes.
I've however had issues with Tages on Stalker call of Pripyat from GamersGate. Activation server was down for 5 days and thus I was unable to activate and play my game for 5 days.

Konami did well with Apocalyptica (or somesuch), it caused BSOD. Their support asked me to reformat my computer, I did, still BSOD, then told me to stop bothering them, better luck next time. No clue what the protection was, but a no-cd patch later and all problems were gone except it was a horrible game.

I delayed purchasing both Bioshock and GTA IV until they'd both dropped to a quite low price and relaxed the DRM restrictions. And when I heard what kind of DRM Ubi was using on Assassins creed 2 I dropped the series altogether.

Roman5: I remember buying The retail Special Edition of Dreamfall and my game wouldn't start at all because of the DRM

boy was I angry that day...
That's nothing. First time I installed Dreamfall my computer wouldn't start because of the DRM. Yup, that version of starforce didn't like Windows 7 at all.
My first, and I do hope my very last - Mount & Blade sequel on Steam - that invasive, high-maintenance princess SW that kept crashing my system that was on rather decent HW and OS.

"Hope" in the above is the balance between eagerness to play novelties to principle of hating Steam with vengeance ever since.

The reason why I have not installled Skyrim. I hope awaiting couple of years will bring about compilation wihtout Steam.

Gog.com has helped me on the principle bit by making old, treasured favorites Win7 compatible - thank you for that - I would play BG series thrice over some console port SKyrim on Steam!! :)

Plus I waited about 18 months from purchase due to "euuuughh" feeling towards the registration towards Dragon Age II.

I mean, Risen came out about that time wihotut any of that nonesense, and I have preordered to Risen 2 in Amazon - which shall not be the case for Bioware or Betsheda prdoducts going fwd. I totally loved Morrowind and Dragon Age origins, but not what followed.

Risen (Gothic), Two Worlds, Witcher series - developers to be appreciated for their respect of PC platform. In my view, up to us to appreciate them back with our business,

You're aware that Risen 2 will require Steam?
The dogshit of having to play with Steam, if I wanted to check out a game.

Nope, damned thing can lie in the sewer.

Daedalus1138: Since I'm pretty sure people consider GFWL DRM, I'll say my worst experience was with Bioshock 2. When I first got the game, it took me a while to be able to play it because GFWL was acting weird. Luckily, it didn't actually take me long to get everything worked out, and I really enjoyed the game. Other than that, I can't think of any other problems I've ever had.
What a timely post! I just tonight installed BioShock 2, and ran into every imaginable runaround... couldn't remember GFWL password, reset problems, profiles wouldn't download, no Gamertag, off to Gamertag setup, blah blah blah... the physical install from CD took about 10 minutes... but I spent another solid hour in "GFWL Hell". Bah humbug!
I think it's called StarForce or something like that, it was installed with
a game but I couldn't start the game.. I tried all kind of things to try and
make it work but eventually I read on the internet that probably the version
of that DRM was not compitable with my Vista! so I went searching their website
and found a newer version supporting Vista, installed it and I think it partially
worked or something, still was bugged :\
Those good old starforce dayz...
I still love it when i can't play my Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, cos sf don't like Win7 and the respond from support is "get a crack".
Heh, the worst DRM shitload anyone could have is yet to come. It's ALWAYS yet to come....

Oh dodged a bullet, Anno 2070 on steam has an install limit of 3. I'm not sure if that means 3 different machines or 3 installs period. Who does this, seriously, even people who don't care about DRM raise their eyebrows at this crap.
Finding out 1 hour ago Steam suspended my account. Last evening it worked fine. I wanted to try my joystick which I got for Christmas, just now, on the X series on Steam and tough luck, account suspended...

Obviously no reason given... and now I have to hope that there is actually someone on Steam Support which works Christmas. And if one is I'm betting he or she is in a happy helpful mood having to work now....

Section 8 Prejudice bought on Direct2 Drive, the game crashes when starting and it is due GFWL, but I was too lazy to do anything about it.
"Steam servers are too busy to let you start Steam to play your Steam DRM'ed singleplayer game."
"Steam servers are too busy to let you install your game from a disc that's in your drive."
"Steam servers are too busy to let you start the game you already have installed on your computer."

3 concurrent installs (from GG description: This video game is protected by the digital rights management software SOLIDSHIELD from TAGES S.A.S which limits the amount of concurrent installations of the game.)

'Remind me, Borderlands: the game is just normal securom. 2 of it's dlc are securom 5 activation limit.
