Time for a bump.
Earlier, my avatar was a pic of my head, but I thought it was too small, and anyway, mugshots are better off in the Post your pic! thread.
My current one is Giacomo, inventor of the Vinci people in Rise of Legends (yeah, I like that game, pitiy it flopped so big time).

I wanted a unique avatar a few years ago, so I too a photo of a small dragon statue I have. It's got its hands up to its head in a "Shut it! I've got a f*cking headache!" manner, I like it. The headache may be because of the relatively large speaker right behind it (though the speaker is not much larger than the typical computer speaker, the dragon is about half its height, standing).
Since then I've used different sizes of the same image to fit with the allowed size of different forums/communities, and added a white border just inside the actual border of the image. So that's me, see the same image, it's probably me unless someone stole it.

Mine's pretty simple.

That, truly, is a wicked cool icon. Oh, and while I'm on here . . . I chose my icon simple because . . it's me! (I'm reading my poison of choice, PC Lamer.)

As a quick aside, have you seen the new Stalker mod Complete 2009? Downloaded/installed it the other day. Holy Toledo! My mouth dropped open. It was like playing Crysis! Stalker has angered me so much I've uninstalled the game twice, but now I'll have to attempt a third play through. Oddly, I sometimes get feeling kind of lonesome for the environment and landscapes in Stalker. It's the only game that's ever affected me this way.
