Anybody notice how the Avatars released with each game are few and lacking ?

Games have few avatars, and usually the images chosen are not the best ones for the game, or not the best know nostalgic ones we remember.

Just look at JA2, a game with more than a hundred merc portraits in the game, and what do we get for avatars ? none of them!

I was thinking to use GOG avatars for my phone, what would be cooler than to have my favorite game characters appear there .. but downloading ALL the avatars for all the games I have ( 78 games ) I ended up with just 148 avatars, which is less than 2 for per game.

Also, in most cases, the avatars chosen were not very iconic or representative of the game.

Come on GOG .. you can do a lot better !

It's quite easy to add tens of Avatars to each game, you don't even need a designer for that, screenshot, cut, paste, save.

It's something small, but it adds to the 'value' of GOG games, and GOG is all about value right ?
Honestly I just found a picture I thought was hilarious and used that one :D

But I get what you mean.

May be hilarious but it is certainly very hard to decipher
I actually like the fact that there aren't too many provided avatars. I get sick and tired of seeing 50 people with the same avatar. Make or find unique avatars, don't rely on others to just hand them to you.:D.

Also, the RPGCodex has tons of JA2 avatars :D

ditto on that.

i am using a picture of myself (in white coat) since the beginning. don't worry about avatars and just find a pic which suits you...
internet is a vast place so no need to worry.
But if there were more avatars, maybe not everybody would use the Gabriel Knight avatar.

This. I tend to identify people with their avatar, so much so that I rarely look at the name of the poster if I recognize his/her avatar. This leads to confusion when someone else posts on the forum using the same avatar as one of the long-time regulars.
Avatars are pretty low on the list of additional content I look for :P.

In order of priority:

1) Manual

2) Additional game content (extra maps, etc)

3) Soundtrack

4) Any type of content that gives some insight into the making of the game

5) Comics, Short Stories and the like

6) The rest

If you want an avatar for an in-game picture that more-or-less fits, Print Screen + Paint/Paintshop/Photosphop is your remedy :).

Same here. I see a green Wizball, I know it's you. If I start seeing 50 wizballs...

Yeah, much too small to read. I like that it has the Pac-Man ghosts, though!

TinEye can figure it out though, by finding larger versions.

I bet its hilarity increases with the image size.

You bet? Use the link in my post just above yours to find larger sizes and get to know for sure.

I noticed that just after posting. It definitely needs the extra pixels that GOG avatars can't hope to provide (note: not suggesting larger GOG avatars).
I too have noticed a lessening number of extras, including avatars. I figured it was caused by either a change of attitude in the publishers, coincidence, less available material provided/available, or the GOG staff being overworked. (Thus it being even more good that they got the vacation that this did.)

I still prefer 80x80 avatars. They're not so large that they bother certain people, but are large enough to show greater detail. Heck, I like 100x100 ones a lot too.
