Yeah yeah I know "All generations have their great games and travesties." but bear with me because this is just opinion based all right and I have not made a thread for 3 days.

My favorite generation was from 2001-2005.

all the great games from Xbox, PS2, Gamecube, Gameboy Advance, and PC games of the timeframe were amazing and had such variety.
Everything building up to the Doom 3/HL2/Farcry era, when games could still amaze me graphically.

From there on, while I still love discovering and playing new ones, nothing gives me that "amazed" feeling anymore.
I'll go with 2001-2005 also.

Though I think right now with old games being avaialable on DD sites, now is the best time for gaming ever
Let me predict everyone's answer: "The one that happened when I was 13".

I don't recall anymore whether StingingVelvet or SimonG said it, but it seems at least as true as anything else.

Well if that was the case I would have said the 1990s but I chose 2001-2005.
Probably this one honestly.

or the PS2/GC/XBOX era
I liked the extended memory era of DOS gaming. The PC finally stopped feeling like an overgrown 8bit. New types of games were created.

~1990-96
386-pentium 1
vga as standard (320x200x8 will always have a place in my heart)
sound cards as standard
mouse support ;)
Early to mid 90s.
I'd go with 1998-2005.
I've honestly found things to adore in every generation, I'd have a hard time picking a favorite, they're all good, though each also has its stinkers.
Mid to late 90's, when Microprose, Origin and Lucasarts were still big, but I'm biased.

And no, I wasn't 13 back then.

Me neither, and I have to agree with you,..also SSI, New World, Interplay, etc. Actually all the 90's for me. Always PC, never got into game systems, too much FPS.

Hmm...I think I'd pick 1987 - 1991 and 2000 - 2003. And I wasn't 13 during any of those years. :-)
When CDs first came out and games began to have voice. The time period when Lunar the Silver Star came out, point and click adventures started looking less pixelly and had full voice acting (leisure suit larry 6) and there was no shortage of full motion video games.
Playstation 2 era.
