babark: I'll keep an eye on Space Marine as well. You are right that I don't much care for RTSes, so I'll see with that :D.
Also, if the first Darkness is better, surely I should aim for that? I'm not too fond of horror games either, though...they seem to oscillate between jump scares (which just irritate me), and boring overdone blood-stained wall stuff. I played Amnesia for a bit before getting somewhat bored of it as well.
Mind you that Space Marine, like i said, is an action/hack and slash game so you don't need to worry about the rts elements. As for The Darkness 1, it's only available on PS3/Xbox 360 (that's why i only mentioned TD2 because that one was released on pc), if you have one of those consoles then yeah, the story is amazing and has a great atmosphere, not a horror game tough, it's full action with some with some (small) exploration.

Or were you talking about Condemned? If you're not fan of horror games then perhaps it's not for you but i have to say that it doesn't have anything to do with Amnesia, i also found that game boring and just quitted, in case of Condemned you're a detective investigating a serial killer case but, no, it's not one of those walking scare simulator, here is a full brawler in fps format (similar of Zeno Clash), you can grab stuff and use it to fight. But there's some jump scares here and there...

cataclism: Do yourself a big favor and get Metal Gear Rising. It's made by one of the best studios in existence: Platinum Games.

Then once you become a fan of Platinum (you will) join us in our eternal battle with SEGA to get Bayonetta and Vanquish on PC! (We already got hints it's working!)
I've only ever played MGS2, but I suppose they're not really a similar sort of game. I suppose the issue is that being a predominantly PC gamer, I've only ever heard of the games from reputation, and it is often stuff about over-long cutscenes, absurdly dramatic and bombastic story and QTEs. I'll keep an eye out on Rising, though, since you're the 2nd (3rd?) person to mention it here.

ShadowWulfe: There is that Square-Enix sale going on, and I wonder what, if any, games I should get from it. Either that, or hold out and hope that someday Team America finally brings it's crap over here.
Where is this Square Enix sale? I've been flip-flopping on the new Tomb Raider. I heard it is the best one in recent memory, with apparently cool archerying, but it has a lot of the game-of-today issues (QTEs, series-of-corridors exploration with lead-by-the-nose gameplay).
As for the SE games I've played, I'd highly recommend you get Hitman 2 or Blood Money, any of the Thief games (except the last) or Deus Ex: HR.

Yeah, I was talking about Darksiders. Thanks, I'll keep an eye on Darksiders 2. It has been in a couple of sales and bundles, but I've always passed over it.

I loved the first Batman Arkham game, was such a tightly done, densely packed story with interesting mechanics that they added slowly. I played quite a bit through the 2nd one as well, but I admit, I got a bit bored of it..with the same stuff having been spread over a much larger area, with the typical "open-world" collectable shenanigans and missions and stuff, it just didn't feel right. Since I've heard Origin is more of the same, I skipped out on it so far.

Metal Gear Rising is a spin off and nothing like the solid games. Solid focuses on stealth gameplay but rising is an hack and slash action game through and through. Similar to Devil May Cry and Bayonetta (Darksiders is similar as well but slower and with Zelda elements). Many of the same devs to. Platinum games are the gods of action games but sadly very little of their games have made the way to PC.
Also if you do get it keep in mind the game doesn't hold your hand and don't give up when you inevitably lose to robot dog boss in the beginning lol

Small correction:

I was talking about The Darkness 2 and not Darksiders 2.

I was too, sorry!
So much darkness, I stumble about and get confused easily :P.
With the Steam sale coming up, I figured, mostly for my own convenience, I'd list the games that multiple people here recommended. I was quite surprised about Alpha Protocol...I mean, the others I'd heard at least by name before, but Alpha Protocol wasn't even on my radar. Pity about Bulletstorm and its extra layer of DRM...makes me wonder again at the morality of buying it and then downloading and playing a cracked version :(. And I'm still as confused as ever as to which AC game to keep an eye out for.

Assassin's Creed series
Darksiders 2
Alpha Protocol
Bulletstorm
Metal Gear Rising
Dark Souls

Overlord - here on GOG. Great fantasy satire. I actually LOL'd at various points.
Jade Empire - here on GOG. Excellent Bioware RPG.

They're both a bit older than what I'm aiming for, but I have had them in my sights for a while, especially Jade Empire. The lowest price Jade Empire ever goes for is $3.99 here on gog, and that happens almost every sale (didn't happen in this last winter one, though). If it ever goes lower than that, I'd probably pounce on it, or if I'm finally able to stop resisting, I might get it at that price :D.

babark: All the Elder Scrolls, all the Fallouts, all the Hitman games, all the Max Paynes, all the Thief games, all Half-Life, all the Telltale stuff, both Mass Effect 1 and 3, Darksiders 1, all the Civs (except the expansions to V), Walking Dead Season 1, all the Bioshocks except 2, all the Batman: Arkham games except Origin, all the Saints Rows games except 4, XCOM Enemy Unknown (but not Within), Borderlands 1 and 2, both Two Worlds, Deus Ex 1 and HR, all the GTAs up to and including San Andreas, Spec Ops: The Line, Alan Wake, Dragon Age: Origins, Kingdoms of Amalur, Dishonoured (but not the DLC, which I hear is good), Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Sleeping Dogs, Prototype (which I got in the summer sale using this same criteria), Saboteur, Assassin's Creed 1 and LA Noir.

Thanks in advance for indulging me.
Throw in another vote for the STALKER series.

Why? Because I'm playing STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl now due to GOG recommendations, and wish I hadn't bought the series. I dislike it for a lot of the same reasons I dislike most of the games you listed above :/

I don't understand...you're suggesting the STALKER series, but you didn't like it? :D
I was recently gifted STALKER, so I'm going to experience it soon enough, which is why I didn't list it here, despite it being recommended at least twice.

One small correction. It's been $2.99 in June and November. I certainly recommend it if it goes on sale like that again though. It's the lowest recorded price on IsThereAnyDeal for any retailer.

You are right, of course, I mixed it up. This .99 thing always causes me confusion :D.

I'm saying that I don't like most of the games that you mentioned (particularly the open-world stuff like Elder Scrolls, Assassin's Creed, GTAs, and the specific FPSes you mentioned like Half Life and Bioshock series).

I picked up STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl because I saw all the positive buzz on GOG when it came here in February. So now that I'm playing it, I see a lot of the same qualities in the games above, and hence, I don't enjoy it.
